I searched the TPFC and forums and could not find ALZip, therefore i suggest it.
ALZip is a zipping utility which is free for home users. I downloaded ALZip, installed and copied files to another folder and uninstalled ALZip. Running ALZip.exe without installation seems to work fine, except that the language is by default not english, but after some clicking around you can change it.

ALZip
Oh gosh!! . You are right Fluffy, ALZip is a pest. Sorry all for this suggestion. I switched back to 7-zip myself.
I have a question now, does anybody know which archiver allows me to drag-drop files into zip folders?? For example, dragging a text file and dropping it onto an already existing Zip file. ofcourse without opening the Zip file. I know Winzip and ALZip can do this but 7-zip cannot. Any suggestions??

Mmmh.. maybe you need a File Manager with full archive support...
I would use Free Commander (Total Commander like) which allows you to drag&drop files (or folders) directly to a zip file (without having to open it). http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=291
Even Tabbyfile does the same: http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=662
This app has a large fan club!!!
File Commander 5 wants you to open the zip file (so, it is not so nice): http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=516
Maybe you can find other FM in the Database:

Thank AlephX!!
But neither tabbyfile nor free commander do it. Infact, I thought the important thing is archiver utility itself and not filemanager. Because with Winzip and ALZip drag&drop onto unopened zip file works on every filemanager i tried. But 7-zip, Peazip, Izarc, Filzip, Zipgenius etc doesnt allow this without opening zip file.
My hunt for portable archiver that allows this is still ON.

Maybe you want to do it on the desktop... In my experience, if Free Commander 2006 shows a (closed) zip , you can drop&drag a (text)file even from the desktop or explorer, and the (text)file is immediately added to the zip file without opening it. It is the same than Total COmmander...
Maybe I dont understand...

Very extrange! I have just made a test.zip file, and with a43 I have added some more files to the test.zip file: the result has been a bigger test.zip file with all together, the old contens along with the new one. Try to drag and drop the files you want to merge with the zip file directly on the left column of the a43 display, and may be you will see the zip file increasing its size on the right side. In my case it works. FreeCommander does the same thing. Both have the zip engine embedded, and behave as a archivers

abid, try this one:
http://www.technelysium.com.au/winimp.html
It is only archiver, and it is very small. I had choosen it for unpack-pack files before I knew about freecommander.
