Is it possible that "Scan Dir" is not checked?

Look at the ini file:

Code: Select all

[Setup]
ExtDir=C:\WINDOWS; C:\DOCUMENTS\USERNAME;G:\test_my_portable_folder
Scan Dir must include the OS folder, the User Folder and the Test folder...

It does write settings to the user profile folder. Here's my RegShot output (relevant sections only):
Regshot 1.7

....

----------------------------------
Files [attributes?] modified:7
----------------------------------
C:\WINNT\system32\config\software
C:\WINNT\system32\config\software.LOG
C:\WINNT\system32\config\system
C:\WINNT\system32\config\SYSTEM.ALT
C:\Documents and Settings\Normal\Cookies\index.dat
C:\Documents and Settings\Normal\NTUSER.DAT
C:\Documents and Settings\Normal\ntuser.dat.LOG

----------------------------------
Folders added:1
----------------------------------
C:\Documents and Settings\Normal\Application Data\aignes

....
Under "C:\Documents and Settings\Normal\Application Data\aignes" is another folder called "AM-DeadLink", and inside that are the config/data files.

@Checker

I think it is better to keep to AM-DeadLink version 4.6 which is fully functional, in contrast with version 4.7:
Starting with AM-DeadLink 4.7, it's no longer possible to alter or delete bookmarks from browsers.
MajorGeeks still hosts version 4.6, however MajorGeeks' version 4.6 is different from the one I have (mine is newer- this is an example why the developers should never release a changed version with the same version number):

AM-DeadLink 4.6 - my installer:
MD5: 10cbb56e99879c2e1df2ad78cb1598eb
SHA1: 993c7c8b870d9b61675621c11c166904c12291d9

VirusTotal result

..

AM-DeadLink 4.6 - MajorGeeks' installer:

MD5: f79c9a0f827082bdc0d797c37dd98b47

As bookmark management in browsers got more complex over the years, it's no longer recommended to use external tools to delete bookmarks. Browser bookmarks should only be deleted within the browser user interface!

Starting with AM-DeadLink 4.7, it's no longer possible to alter or delete bookmarks from browsers. IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO USE OLDER VERSIONS OF AM-DEADLINK TO DELETE BOOKMARKS FROM BROWSERS!

AM-DeadLink is no longer supported, you can however still use it to check various sources for dead links!

For me AM-DeadLink version 4.7, which is incapable of deleting dead links is as useful as TrueCrypt version 7.2 which can't create encrypted volumes. Finding dead links among thousands of bookmarks inside hundreds of folders and then searching for these dead links manually in the browser is pointless. I have never encountered a problem when deleting a dead link via AM-DeadLink. I guess the developer is just dumping support for old programs. Once I was interested in the commercial version of AM-Notebook but since it hadn't been updated for more than 4 years and since I didn't want to buy dead software I asked whether there would be new releases and the developer responded that "...all planned features are implemented. New features (like epub format) are not planned.".

I tried Deadlink and a few other tools on a site that required a complex login process that meant it had to be built into the browser. Frayd's Firefox plugin did a great job: http://frayd.us/extensions/linkchecker/

Example of it's use here on the site:

Image

The yellow highlighting was either suspect or broken links.
