Haven't tested this in any way, but I feel it should be posted...

Apparently there's a fork of Thunderbird v68 -- still XUL based? -- called Interlink Mail & News -- there's no info at its homepage (https://binaryoutcast.com/) apart from links to downloads and extensions, these are available for both Linux and Windows.

Latest Interlink release present is v52.9.7299 from 2021-08-18 and there's both an installer and a compressed archive available for download.

I'd probably experiment with the Config Editor https://www.askvg.com/tip-how-to-access ... underbird/ and set the update interval to the largest number it will accept e.g. 999999999

For those using K-9 Mail on Android, Thunderbird has hired the lead developer of K-9 Mail and K-9 Mail will be rebranded to Thunderbird in the future: https://blog.thunderbird.net/2022/06/re ... -plans-k9/

So, the email arena seems to be moving again, judging from this piece of news and the one conveyed by SYSTEM regarding the new Vivaldi email functionality... 8)

Posting here because this relates to Thunderbird -- chiefly among many other email apps...
Use plaintext email: There are two main types of emails on the internet: plaintext and HTML. The former is strongly preferred, but often isn't set up by default. We'll get you set up right.
This is a list of 421 remote code execution vulnerabilities in Thunderbird. If you're bored, try finding one that doesn't exploit web tech.
Thunderbird
√ Compose in plaintext
√ Wraps text or format=flowed
√ Supports bottom posting
  1. In the accounts tab, right click on your account
  2. Select "Settings"
  3. Select the "Composition[" tab]
  4. Scroll down until "Sending Format" section.
  5. Select "Only Plain Text" from list.

I guess you could say I was bored :)

This number isn't exactly related to using HTML email. If you sort by CVE Number Descending, you can see that the latest CVEs in 2022 were only three and not related to HTML email. I can see the benefit to using plain-text only, but the author could have spent some time going through the CVE list instead of using the total number to prove their point.

So boredom does indeed have its virtues. :)

My guess is the writing largely predates the current year and has had only the global figure updated... plus, the overall point is still relevant, IMHO.

Looks like there's a lot happening on the Thunderbird project:

Getting a remarkable amount of feedback over on HNews so clearly there's a lot of interest:

I plan on setting up a separate, portable instance to test TB v115. I have some addons I rely on and hope they still work properly in v115.
