WinMerge - text and file comparison

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

So it looks like the WinPenPack version is lagging behind the PortableApps' version by over 6 months. I'll also try to also retest the no-install version to see if it's natively portable.

Well it's been another month and no change. The noinstall version is still saving to HKCU\Software\Thingamahoochie\WinMerge\

Additionally, the WinMerge site is listing the PA version under "Unofficial Versions": https://winmerge.org/downloads/?lang=en

As a result, I'm going to move the WinPenPack version currently posted over to the PA version.

I was curious what the program did with image comparison so I took a local image

... and made minor edits:

Here's what the comparison tool caught. It saw my changes, along with the resulting JPEG compression:

A fork of WinMerge has appeared called WinMerge 2011: https://github.com/datadiode/winmerge2011/

Just the screenshots on the website look very interesting, with some spreadsheet comparison elements I haven't seen anywhere else.

PortableApps has been on top of this for some time and has put out a release for this package https://portableapps.com/news/2021-01-3 ... 1-released

Here's how WinMerge 2011 evaluated two slightly different desktop background images dragged into the program:

Here's the program view of two Excel files:

This is old news and covers a web-based tool called "Diffchecker", but I'm posting it to this thread because WinMerge is a better change tracking program.

Regardless of what tool you use, it's hard to ignore the fact that seeing crucial changes, in this case on Twitter's "terms of service" agreement (https://www.diffchecker.com/N1cAYuis), is very useful. Once you know about programs like these, it's hard to imagine going without.
