Donation[ware]

#1 Post by Rafael Castro »

Programs that work fully but ask for a donation, can they be inside this web page?

Yes. They'll just be marked as donationware in the database.

thank you
after 10 years without development (IYF 2010) I started to create it from Zero with lazarus for Windows Linux and Mac. It is not finished. It is a very advanced beta and change from freeware to donationware.
The program works completely, randomly appears a banner where you have to wait 3 seconds to continue.

If you think it is possible to add to your databases I will be very grateful.

Just try it.

Please be prepared for some strong feelings about software labels. A lot of folks think that if there's a nag screen it's "nagware" and not "donationware". Sometime back we had a conversation with a dev who felt that was unfair.

FAQ bit on licenses: https://www.portablefreeware.com/faq.php#license

Regardless, I of course will test out the program when you release it. Very excited to see what you've put together.

Nagware is bad enough but what about activism(ware) - this is my term.

I won't mention the software, some of you may have used it back in the day, anyway, the dev hated bush/chenney so much he embedded an animated gif within the app that ranted on and on about em and the dev's hatred for em. It really became too much to be honest. Oh my, I forgot about the forums, what a pleasant place to visit.

I would prefer a minimal, slimmed down app missing certain features over being nagged to death.

To be abundantly clear, we do not have issues with people making money from their hard work. While my primary goal is to give free support and attention to people who give their tools away for free, that's not the only thing we cover. We also talk about and use software that runs the gamut from fully commercial to permissively-licensed open source. Whether or not that gets into live database is another question.

Anyway, I have tested the program and posted about it in the IYF program thread.
