SetDefaultBrowser to a portable app

#1 Post by Cornflower »

I stumbled across this one and couldn't find an existing forum topic with it.

Christoph Kolbicz, who brought to us SetUserFTA, also gives a great tutorial on using SetDefaultBrowser to make a portable browser as the Windows 10 or 11 default. I'm not going to recreate his process here, except to say that it involves manual steps of registering the portable browser and adding handler information before using SetDefaultBrowser.

SetUserFTA discussion here: viewtopic.php?t=25322&p=102315#p102315

Note: for all Portable applications where we don't want to install the app at all, all his changes are to HKCU, and never HKLM.

I haven't yet played with it or modified it for PortableFirefox, but I recommend his blog of occasional well-thought-out "technical geek stuff" here: https://kolbi.cz/blog/
