Old thread update: strangely the author seems aware of the registry issue but doesn't appear to want to change it.

In fairness the author is labeling it as a "no install" rather than "portable" version, which is (to my definitions) accurate.

Softpedia, which has a more lax definition is listing it as portable:

If there weren't already some excellent file compare tools on the site, I might dig into this further.

If it's any consolation, they also offer the freemium online service https://www.diffnow.com
While ExamDiff has worthy competitors offline, I think their online service beats the rest.

No updates here unfortunately as the program remains commercial with an abandoned, non-portable freeware option.

- whatsnew.txt
and uninstall it.

It was deemed not portable because settings are written to the registry, and this is one app where portable settings is quite important. Imagine tuning all your diff settings on one machine and having to do it all over again on another, even with the app on a USB memory stick.
