Videomass (video downloader/converter)

Videomass is yet another recent find I wasn't able to thoroughly test but seemingly natively portable, it deserves a quick post, IMHO.
Videomass is a cross-platform GUI designed for FFmpeg enthusiasts who need to manage custom profiles to automate conversion/transcoding processes. It is based on an advanced use of presets and profiles in order to use most of the FFmpeg commands without limits of formats and codecs. It features graphical tools for viewing, analyzing and processing multimedia streams and downloading videos via youtube-dl.

Shame, after some quick testing of Videomass and although settings and presets are initially located in the 'share' sub-folder, they get copied to '%APPDATA%\videomass' after the first run, making Videomass neither portable nor stealth, just "no-install"...

As I couldn't find a built-in workaround, I'm moving it to "Not Portable".

A related issue was posted to https://github.com/jeanslack/Videomass/issues/25. (Answered by dev; didn't test.)

Hi @Midas, I'm the author of Videomass, all new current versions for MS-Windows, starting from v3.4.3, should meet the requirements that make it completely portable. All application data such as configuration files, cache, logs, are moved to the "portable_data" subfolder. In this way, all program settings will be isolated from the installed version and portable versions prior to v3.4.3.

In light of the new info, I am moving this thread to submissions.

I would love to give this a go one of these days when time permits.

FYI, Videomass latest release is v3.4.5 (changelog and downloads at https://github.com/jeanslack/Videomass/releases).

- Fully portable application
To make the application completely portable and keep all its data inside the program folder, it was necessary to create a folder called "portable_data".
@ 'README.txt'

Note of warning: setting downloads, 'ffmpeg.exe' and 'youtube-dl.exe' paths through Videomass' own "Options | Preferences" menu will result in absolute paths, thus impairing full portability; said paths can easily and manually be made relative by editing 'videomass.conf' -- present in the previously mentioned 'portable_data' folder -- with a plain text editor.

Good day everyone,
I agree that a portable app must have relative paths. I just opened an issue on Github https://github.com/jeanslack/Videomass/issues/35
It is a bit inconvenient to manually edit the configuration file.

Hi there!
Sorry, this is a bit late. The latest release of Videomass should also work on Windows 7 as Python and wxPython have been downgraded due to some incompatibilities on Windows with the latest versions. This will not limit the functionalities of the program of course. I just corrected the webpage accordingly https://jeanslack.github.io/Videomass/P ... ndows.html
