Whatever else this program has, I definitely like seeing a batch OCR program. It's painful to convert dozens of documents into PDF and then open each individually in PDF XChange or similar tools to have it process separate. Good suggestion.

One question: is the timer a thing that makes the nagscreen last or the total length of time you can use the software?

I think that's total length of time you can use the software.
But I really don't know and the reviewer (ProgrammFree) says the program works perfectly.

Look down for review.

Here is the review in ProgrammiFree (Ita) https://www.programmifree.com/categorie ... rsione.htm
Orpalis PDF OCR Free is a program that converts scanned PDFs into editable PDFs or text (via OCR).

The free version works perfectly: it converts only PDFs into text and not other formats, and in a few languages, among which - fortunately - Italian, which is more than enough for our purposes.

The operation is simple, since it is enough to load the starting document and click a button, with the only important precaution to insert a different folder for saving, otherwise it will overwrite the starting PDF.

Once our PDF has been converted into an editable PDf, it can be easily exported to Word (.doc) with a program like UniPDF (rel. 1.1).

IMPORTANT: Unfortunately for some time now the free version has been replaced by a version called Cloud and made somewhat complicated (nothing is required to download it, but to start it you are required to register via email), even with a credit system.
Depending on the conversions we make, the number of credits goes down (then goes back up on a monthly basis).

Below is the link for the latest truly free version. (see link above on previous post)

I ran some basic tests and can confirm that the program works well on batches of files, even whole folders. It's not exceedingly fast or super accurate, but it definitely does the job very well for a free program, and maintains your directory structure to help keep things organized.

Once again, this batch OCR operation is another feature that you normally only available in commercial PDF tools. Very nice to have and definitely will come in handy in the year ahead with my own documents.

Speed note: Conversion took around 30 seconds for a 3-page piece of sheet music. This was on a ~5 year old Intel i5 machine. I expect you could easily convert all your own scanned files by running the process overnight.

For reference, here's the limitations screen, which looks like crippleware but I didn't have any issue:

It looks like the timer mentioned is IN the nag screen, meaning at startup you have to look at the nag screen for around 10 seconds.
