New development version out:

I don't like where the "new" Winamp is heading, but I am old and dusty.

Whoa! Took Radionomy that long to get a new release out after acquiring from the ashes of AOL. I don't count v5.8. See https://teddit.net/r/winamp/comments/as ... e/egr7i84/.
is it stealth? ;)

Looks like v5.9 is not a great release - https://nitter.it/0x5066/status/1552694428007112705. Stick with WACUP.

Good to know. It does underline how there's a way to make Winamp correctly, and they're not doing it.

I'm not that mad I guess because the team behind Winamp also developed Gnutella, WASTE, and the Nullsoft Scriptable Install System (NSIS). Those were major changes in the world of freeware and I'm still seeing ancestors of all those tools today. In other words, that's coming from a very talented development team and I'm sure it's hard to get together a group that can follow it.

Still, its a little disappointing that they effectively slipped on a banana peel right out of the gate.

Tested version 5.91.0.10029; file tree should look like this:
Image

If you edit the paths.ini file with the following content:

Code: Select all

[Winamp]
inidir=.\Settings
then Winamp will save its preferences in the Settings subfolder
Image

I couldn't find any notable registry entries (I denied file associations when asked),
Image
but there will still be a log file saved in AppData:

Winamp 5.92 is portable, just not stealth.
Yes, you can make it stealth using launchers like yaP, AutoRun LWMenu or JauntePE, but I don't have ready-made configuration files for those apps.

Sorry, no idea, I don't use Winamp and I pretty much dislike the idea of this "modern version" of it. I'm more like a foobar2000 and XMPlay guy.
