File name database?
File name database?
Anybody know of a program which will scan drives and build a database of the file names?
So you can later browse the names (not the content).
And it should be automatic, not by entering data manually.

Re: File name database?
Like IndexYourFiles?
Re: File name database?
Give Cathy a try.
I have databases for each partition on my local drive and also some usb drives.
You can search all your databases in an instant or choose 'Search selected' to search a single database.
You can also navigate by directory tree.
It takes a little bit of trickery to make it portable but well worth it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll look into them
Btw, I forgot to add it should be able to search index of something which is not online - not sure if that disqualifies any of this, but I guess I'll find out

Hey, I don't remember the whole collection - I'm not an android
But I'm checking it out now - looks good so far
I also like I can change the font size of the interface, that's definitely +20 points right there.
Though it just tried to go online, which has me puzzled...
Re: File name database?
Ok, IndexYourFiles could be cute, however since I want it to index USB drives, it doesn't seem to work when there can be many different drives on "E:"
Or is there a work around for that?

Re: File name database?
You can index the devices one after another...just give them different names.
Re: File name database?
Can't figure out how to get it to work. It seems to index based on drive letter not volume name.joby_toss wrote:You can index the devices one after another...just give them different names.
Re: File name database?
I read your comment on Cathy and the answer is yes.
However, if the drive letter changes; e.g. (E:) is being used and your assigned (F:), the database cannot be refreshed.
I believe Cathy indexes by serial number.
