Also, MPC-HC's interface is way easier to customize than VLC. You can show or hide almost any toolbar you want. With VLC, you can't even hide the menu bar!
I think a lot of the people who swear by VLC come from a Linux/FOSS user usability standpoint. They appreciate a free and open-source software that is mature with so many capabilities that doesn't leave you needing much else. Also, the developer of VLC has a good reputation when it comes to free software principles.

On the other hand, those who like MPC-HC come from a regular (albeit a bit techy) Windows user point of view where you are spoiled for choice and things like customizability and instant launch speeds have relatively higher priority.

Think "Wow, this got around codec patent issues!" vs "Wow, this is really slick!"

Of course there are other factors like codec pack problems that VLC got around by bundling its own, but I feel the previous point is not mentioned often enough in the discussions.

... Clsid2 MPC-HC which, BTW, has had v1.9.9 released (changelog and download at https://github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc/releases/).

As prominently stated in the Github page, this is a fork of no longer in development https://github.com/mpc-hc/mpc-hc.

HI
does the fork need mpc-hc64.ini or mpc-hc.ini to be portable?
thanks

The INI filename needs to be the same as the executable filename. So if your rename it to mpc.exe then you will need it to be mpc.ini as well.

I have updated the entry and point it to clsid's fork, with a note explaining the change.

Hi
1.9.19 is out and it has some nice feature like it can download youtube video via
You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites
Put yt-dlp.exe or youtube-dl.exe in the MPC-HC installation folder.
can i ask if could be tested MPC-HC with yt-dlp.exe or youtube-dl.exe if it's still portable?

thanks

It's still portable.

If you have yt-dlp.exe or youtube-dl.exe in a different directory, you can manually set the youtube-dl path in your mpc-hc64.ini file like so:

[Settings]
YDLExePath=..\bin\yt-dlp.exe

Change YDLExePath to wherever your .exe is. Also supports relative paths as well.
is it stealth? ;)

The YDLExePath parameter in MPC-HC supports relative paths.

Let's say my MPC-HC is located at d:\programs\MPC-HC, but yt-dlp.exe is located at d:\programs\yt-dlp\ and not in d:\programs\MPC-HC. I can change the YDLExePath to the following in mpc-hc64.ini:

[Settings]
YDLExePath=..\yt-dlp\yt-dlp.exe

This "..\" portion indicates a relative path. I could have rewritten the YDLExePath parameter to "d:\programs\yt-dlp.exe" but that isn't really portable if you use MPC-HC from a USB drive.

Hope that clarifies things!
