[Mod note: the present is the official forum topic for PhotoFiltre (https://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=12), so this OP was renamed -- the original subject was "New PhotoFiltre not portable".]

The new release of PhotoFiltre seems to be not portable: as said in changelog, it saves settings in %Local AppData% folder (even if a INI file is stored in software folder). We have to report it to the author, to enable a portable use of it. :!:

Good catch. Damn I really like this program to, I wonder why/what he changed in the code so it does this.

He answered me that "the problem is windows 7 and vista don't supports ini file in program files or windows folder, need admin privilege." and so he decided to change it. I hope he will consider my proposal to enable the portable use if a ini file is stored in software folder (as common portable software). You could report him your support to this idea, to encourage this improvement.

Good, he has decided to consider the proposal and release an update able to check ini files in software directory, for a portable use.

Today he has updated the zip package (still version 6.4.0), that now use a PhotoFiltre.ini file for settings if found it in its folder.

I have updated the database, but I have kept that line in changelog because normally it still works storing settings in that folder and only if an empty ini file is created, it use this file to store settings.

Any news on this? I can't read French so I can't tell if there's been any activity in the Forums.

This is the last changelog, translated with Google:

Version 6.4.0 (January 2010)
- Improved display compatibility for XP / Vista / Windows 7
- New icon Large Format Vista / Windows 7 (256x256)
- Toolbox broader with more brushes
- Best compatibility when opening PNG
- The image browser is displayed between the side rails so as not to truncate the toolbox
- Accepts sticking WMF and EMF
- Flashing selection smoother
- INI file stored in %local AppData% (write permission for Vista and Windows 7)
- Some bug fixes

The feature not listed is that if the software find a INI file stored in its folder, it use this file for settings.

The fix is confirmed
You need a blank "PhotoFiltre.ini" in app folder before launch.

The entry mentions plugins but has anyone checked the portability of plugins? I don't think its critical to the listing, just wondering.

PhotoFiltre is talking about putting out a new, cross-platform editor and already has a early stage demo posted:

http://photofiltre-lx.org/

They're talking about taking it open source I would be very cynical to this if it wasn't by a team that hadn't already created one of my favorite editors:
