I used to remember an application that I used to edit songs (e.g. simple fades (I could specify lenghts to cut, normalize, "fade out" or "fade in") or whatever very basic app that did what was asked of it.... but I forgot what its called and do not have a local copy archived on my computer... mp3directcut is prolly the only thing that reminds me of it...
If anyone knows what I am talking about please give me a link to it
Freeware Application to Manage MP3s Similiar to mp3DirectCut

How about Audacity (free, open source software for recording and editing sounds)?

Ahh! I misread the post.
Yeah you probably mean Audacity (if we're talking about interface).
But that's not lossless MP3 editing.
mpTrim lets you edit MP3s without loss of quality.

Just to throw another alternative out there, Wavosaur is a very good freeware audio editor.

I'd recommend that over Audacity.
