Looking for folder and file comparing software

#1 Post by bassiliin »

Hi!

So I'm looking software that could compare files in folders in two locations (dual pane wiew). Something similar to FolderMatch ( http://www.foldermatch.com/ ) which can compare with different crieterias (date-time, crc, sha, etc) and where it's visually seen in results are files same or what exactly is different: which folder has newer files, which older, and which files are only in one folder and which in other. And when needed you can manipulate quickly with selected files between these folders (delete, copy, move, etc)

I tried to use WinMerge, but it's very hard to visually catch which files in which folders are newer or older or orphan.

So if anyone knows what else to try please don't hide it to yourself :P. Excellent if it is portable and free. (Payware, but portable and freeware, but not portable are also worth to try)

FreeCommander includes a folder synchronization feature that might be just what you're looking for:

Not free, but can be made portable (there is a portable option), and undoubtedly the best folder/file compare program out there. If anyone knows one better, I would like to know!

Thank you both, I'll try them because they look promising.

I found another pretty nice app: FreeFileSync
http://sourceforge.net/projects/freefilesync/

I cannot test it's "real" portabilty because RegFromApp somehow prevents something to load and only empty GUI appears.
In manual search in registry I found empty FreeFileSync folder under Software and under MUICache.

Maybe even worth to add to TPFC database ;)

Saves location of settings file to registry, pity as it's portable otherwise.

Code: Select all

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FreeFileSync]
"Selection0"="D:\\SyncSettings.ffs_gui"
