Site for non-portable freeware?

#1 Post by cgallery »

I'm not sure where to post this, but...

I love www.portablefreeware.com. I use much of the software here. But every once in a while I'm looking for something that I can't find a portable version of. Right now it is faxing software. I'd still like it to be free, if possible.

Are there any good sites for freeware? Not shareware, but freeware that just isn't portable?

This should probably go in "Resources and Links"

For in-depth reviews rather than a comprehensive list, FreewareGenius is great.

For generally shorter reviews, you can search LifeHacker or DownloadSquad, 2 blogs that often post articles about interesting software which is almost always free.

For more comprehensive sources:

You can search SourceForge for open source projects, though you often have to do some digging.

Other than that, I usually just search Download.com, which allows you to choose to only view free software in your search results, but there's also FileHippo, tucows is still around, NoNags, and MajorGeeks (all of which are among the top Google results for "download free software").
