Application that suggest colors based on a color

#1 Post by Marc »

I remember using a portable software long time ago that had a tool for that purpose but I can't recap the name.
It recomended other colors to use in combination/addition to the initial color.

I vaguely recall this as well. For the time being you could try colorschemedesigner.com, which interactively displays harmonious colors based on an initial selection.

There are a few color selection programs including:

Phibar

Color calculator

I also recommend Specular's suggestion for http://www.colorschemedesigner.com, which I used recently to improve a PowerPoint presentation, thanks mainly to the adjacent color analysis.

Thanks for the answers!!
I finally found it, is "MyPaint".
I had some draws from the first time I used it which had three triad harmonic colors. The files were saved in ".ora" extension and had brushes paintings. From there I checked the programs that supported it and MyPaint saves to that format by default. =)
One caveat though, the version I used at that time was 1.0.0 (it seems to be from 2010), last version 1.2 has a totally changed default interface view which may be the reason I didnt recognized it.
I find the old version to be simpler to work with colors...

(I'm afraid it is in spanish). Translated from the top to bottom it reads:
"Harmonies: Analog, Complementary, Complementary Divided, Double Complementary, Squares, Triad."

Anyway for the latest version I recommend reading https://github.com/mypaint/mypaint/wiki ... ask-Editor.
Thanks again!! :)

That's fantastic. I didn't know MyPaint (which is portable and in the database) could do that. Thanks for that.

After reading this thread, I gave MyPaint a try on the off-chance that it might perhaps run on Win XP. The database entry says it only runs on Vista and later.

It actually does run on my Win XP. Only when I try to use the button at the very bottom, utmost right, it crashes (but that could be a general bug unrelated to XP). Everything else seems to work fine. Maybe the entry in the database should be changed, as some people using XP might think this rather nice program won't work for them?

I couldn't find the "Harmonies" feature (related colours) in the 1.2 version. But I got the portable 1.0 version from "WinPenPack" (X-MyPaint 1.0.0 [rev5]) and it does have that feature.

As I just mentioned in the thread about XP compatible software, the newest version (1.2.1) no longer runs on my WinXP.

I've tried many different tools for this, but the local applications, but every time I need to come up with a color palate, I generally dig through various web applications out there for some good examples. This one looks really strong: https://mycolor.space

I've had PhiBar off and on over the years with no issues (SHA256: A18D7AC308FC9D9165889AD241CCF61120E4001BFEB40AD67DA772E090A0022B) I suspect it's showing up as a problem because it uses an embedded copy of Flash for the interface, which is probably on more than a few bad lists.
