DxWnd

I've been using this nifty program for what feels like years, it's a program used to make fullscreen games (usually older one) run in a window (think of games like Diablo 1 (1996) or Wizardry 8 (2001)), it can do other things too that would make a game otherwise unplayable on modern OS's become playable. It's portable as far as I know and am kinda shocked it's not on the site here, I think this is something that deserves more exposure.

I saw a post on gHacks about it today and it made my wonder why it's not on this site, maybe it's of a weird category or that it see's frequent updates (usually once a week) which can get annoying if you have to update it all the time. http://www.ghacks.net/2016/11/09/dxwnd- ... atibility/

Not sure I can, I've read the stick on how to submit, but mine lacks the option to do so...

Maybe my account is to "new". I'll add it if/when I can.

Have you ever tested DxWnd with Heroes of Might and Magic III? Once I had to downgrade from 8.1 to 8 because HMM3 failed to run under 8.1. I tried to use DxWnd with HMM3 under 8.1 but I failed- my machine always froze and I suppose the problem might be caused by the video driver. Yet this was strange- HMM3 is running fine under 8 but it was freezing the system under 8.1 with or without DxWnd.

Edit

No I have not, I do have HoMM3 but it's the GoG.com Complete edition and I use an HD mod for it as well, it has always ran flawless for me on both Windows 7 and 10.

But the Dev behind DxWnd is awesome, so if you post about it on the Sourceforge forums he will answer your questions and help you out, and he will make it work if it does not.

Thanks for your response and for the information you provided about DxWnd developer. Before I ask for help I have to try to test again HMM3 with DxWnd but I don't have a virtual machine installed right now. Once I browsed some HMM3-dedicated forums and as far as I can remember there were other players who encountered similar problems with HMM3 under Windows 8.1 as well.

@joby_toss
This is not a compliment. You are awesome, really! Thank you, I voted. By the way I love Diablo, there were times when I was maniacal about it playing it every day hours on end seeking for rare stuff.
