Some very interesting addition for
VirtualDub I just came across:
Virtualdub FFmpeg Input Plugin...
http://codecpack.co/download/FFInputDriver.html wrote:Virtualdub FFmpeg Input Plugin (
FFInputDriver) allows you to open and edit Matroska Container (MKV), MP4, FLV and other video file formats in
VirtualDub.
VirtualDub, as stand-alone, cannot handle MKV, MP4, FLV, MOV or any other files besides AVI. You need a plugin or plugins to load anything else besides AVI.
FFmpeg Input Driver can handle 31 different file formats. The plugin is based as the name may suggest on the
FFmpeg libraries.
More info at
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=165218 and
http://codecpack.co/download/FFInputDriver.html.
Virtualdub FFmpeg Input Plugin latest version ( currently v1.8.3.8 ) can be downloaded from
sourceforge.net/projects/virtualdubffmpeginputplugin/.

Since Original VirtualDub is no longer developed. Here is an unofficial version which is actively developed -
VirtualDub2 (former VirtualDub FilterMod) -

Thanks for bringing
VirtualDub2 to the community's attention,
loin2kolpotoru.
The original
VirtualDub project (
http://www.virtualdub.org/) is one of the longest running one man development shows that I'm aware of.
Avery Lee, the
author states he started it in college and kept updating it up to v1.10.4, released 2013-12-29. Personally, it was one of the first programs I ever used when first I dipped into video editing. All good things come to an end, eventually. Much respect and all the best to him.
VirtualDub2 official webpage is at
http://virtualdub2.com/ (binaries hosted at SourceForge:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/vdfiltermod/; also at Softpedia:
www.softpedia.com /get/Multimedia/Video/Video-Editors/VirtualDub-FilterMod.shtml).
[VirtualDub2 is] An enhanced version of the original VirtualDub with improved usability, and extended to work with new formats and plugins. A streamlined video editor with simple frame-by-frame timeline. Free, open-source, portable.
VirtualDub2 32 and 64-bit latest release (currently
v19 update 10 build 42087) can be downloaded from
sourceforge.net/projects/vdfiltermod/files/VirtualDub pack/.

VirtualDub2 is in development and official virtualdub is not in development so I suggest VirtualDub2 should be listed in the database as alternate of official virtualdub. Same as universal extractor and universal extractor 2.

Yep -- long overdue, should have sorted this out when you first mentioned it.
EDIT: Whoops, looks like it's not actually portable. It does appear possible to update the PortableApps version by copying the contents of the zip file to \VirtualDubPortable\App\VirtualDub64 but I'll hold off on an entry update for now.

It seems VirtualDub2 has also been abandoned
, because last version was released way back in March 20, 2020
.

Yeah but it's still about 7 years more recent than the old version. The old version still has a lot of functionality but is missing a lot of more recent video codecs.
