Thanks to everyone on the site who helped get us up to 72 added programs in 2014! That's an average of a new entry every five days. In case a strong program slipped by me this year, I was interested to hear everyone's favorites and maybe pick a "best of". Once we have a few programs that are getting high ratings, I'll set up a poll to determine the winner.

Thanks for everyone's top apps of the year!

I haven't really been following what's been going on in freeware for the past year so this really helps.

- HDDB - What a great app! Just found out about this because of this thread and it's at my #1 spot on this list already I was just using Everything the other day and was wondering why the sorting took forever (in most cases even not responding). The only issue is its large memory usage (around 79MB vs. 4MB), but that's acceptable to an app that I barely have to run often.

- LICEcap - Been using this since 2013, but I see it was added in 2014

- UnityPDF - Always nice to have alternative PDF processing apps. I believe I was using PDFTK Builder before.

- 7+ Taskbar Tweaker - Helps tweak taskbar stuff. I've used it on and off over the past year. Most notably to manually arrange thumbnails in the taskbar.

Honorable Mentions

- VaultPad is intriguing as it saves its encrypted file as an XML file, but both parties require the VaultPad app to encode and view the file.

- The Levelator is an audio app I recommended back in 2007 to normalize audio files. Glad to see it included 7 years later

Personal two standouts:

2. 7+ Taskbar Tweaker

Although I discovered 7+TT independently and use it non-portably it's a very useful app, and the only one that allows for adjusting a vertical taskbar width narrower than the default. While HexChat is the only IRC client I've liked of the several I've tried.
