Thanks for that - hadn't seen this before

Windows 7 Firewall Control - Vista and above, no 64-bit portable version
site does claim a portable version http://sphinx-soft.com/Vista/order.html or http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-S ... able.shtml

The others:

* ghostwall - couldn't find any indication it's portable ... is there a config trick?
* sterjofirewall - payware

Ok, I'm kind of running late here, but logged in Just to mention this.
Unless there has been some Major(!) change to Ghostwall in the last year or so, its Not portable and its fricken Hard to get rid of.
(I cant find the post, but I'm sure it was asked about in the past year and I didn't see an update to the webpage or program then.)

I've posted about it when was been talked about here before:
http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... php?p=2142
Yes, it's an old thread, But, I havn't seen any updates to the program since. Though, like I said, I havn't checked in about the past year.
EDIT: Softpedia says This about Ghostwall: "Last Updated: September 30th, 2005, 08:56 UTC". So I'm going to go with "Still Horrible" and "Not Portable." ;)

and i use:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/F ... wall.shtml

It works pretty well, even though it writes setting to the registry, I think it remembers the last used config.
My only problem with it that it doesnt keep logs.

Some updates. Sterjo firewall is freeware now. I'm considering going for Tinywall which is not portable, but at least it uses the built-in windows firewall. Patching windows system files reminds me of system unstability.

AS3 Personal Firewall 2.0 mentioned by Firewrath is 2007 year version of SterJo NetStalker (was also known as SterJo Portable Firewall)
Current version is SterJo NetStalker v.1.0 (of 31 march 2013).
Found it today on http://www.pendriveapps.com/software/po ... -firewall/

Sandboxed usage shows that it:
1. Copy comctl32.ocx from its folder to %WINDOWS%/system32/.
2. Writes config.ini, History.sjh, Logs to app folder.
I'm not sure about registry as I haven't checked it.

Looks like it does what I want. Will try it for a while.

Haven't tested this app yet, but might give it a test run soon.

As there aren't many options to portabilize Windows firewall management (e.g., see discussion at viewtopic.php?t=16917), and in the prospect of automating tasks, I think a mention of Gammadyne's command line tool 'FIREWALL.EXE' is in order here (check http://www.gammadyne.com/cmdline.htm#firewall) -- although you'd probably get comparable results from the GUI using Sordum's Firewall App Blocker (see viewtopic.php?t=16704).

Quick post to register a recent update to a valuable firewall resource:
Confirming opinions that firewalls are a field where portable software is scarce, let it be noted that of all products mentioned, only the above mentioned Windows 7 Firewall Control got a portability badge...

Although not a full-blown firewalling software, the portable Firewall App Blocker (viewtopic.php?t=16704) is worthy of mention here, IMHO.

Binisoft's DotNET v4.5 Windows Firewall Control (http://www.binisoft.org/wfc.php) has been around for a while, so I thought I would just make a post about it here...

Hi smaragdus,
My concern was that people know that this app is not payware.
I knew this app was in the db & I'm very happy that it is & I hope folks take advantage of this app & also send feedback to the dev.

Thank you for you return post.

Have a nice day.

My post on the topic was 5 years ago so I'm not sure if I was referencing it's status as freemium or whatever. You are right that there's a free version, which is also noted in the thread.
