I don't think there is a portable firewall.

A fairly new, but very good one (better than ZA anyway ) is Comodo.

(although some people complain its resource usage is too high, but the same can be said for ZA)

i, and some others around here, use AS3 Personal Firewall
it works off a USB stick, but it writes to the registry some, if that matters to you,

but all rules are saved in its folder, just wish it was app-based also, -_-

dont use Ghostwall, >.<

As for just a firewall, i like Sygate Personal Firewall which is an App based firewall with optional rule settings,
but not portable,

i think it is possible to write a small launcher to make AS3 portable... give me a couple of days and i will let you know if i can do it...

As for other firewalls, i do not know other portable firewall because all i tested needs admin rights... (running service...etc..). But if you're going on computers where you have those rights, it should be possible to make some launchers that could make it ! (at least, keeping settings with you on your thumb drive !)

This firewall only supports rules configured by IP or ports but not by protocols or applications.
At this point one could also take, for example, WIPFW http://wipfw.sourceforge.net without the hassle of registry. Ok, I admit the interface isn't as easy as the the AS3's one but WIPFW is well known and tested and it has advantages like command line configuration.

Never claimed it was portable, just registry-free.

I tried AS3 Personal Firewall, but couldn't get it to work at all. For example, I tried blocking port 80, but was still able to use my web browser.

Anyone got it to work?

Perhaps you only blocked inbound traffic?

the damn thing blocks my IM all the time cause im too lazy to add the IPs to the allow list,

in the rules file, if you open it in a txt editor,
blocking port 80 should look like this:
thats blocking all traffic on port 80,
with no logging, and its called 'Test'

adding the rule, itd be,
name: Test
all IP,s
local&remote port: 80
reject,
and no check in the log box,

if that dont work,
idk what to tell you, O_o
another firewall could be over riding it, or your using something that somehow bypasses your firewall, or port redirection? idk, -_-

AS3 does indeed add a number of registrey keys when run, namely the following:

Since the firewall rules are saved in a file in the application folder, and since the application updates the search path to this file to the registry upon launch, that does not matter so much. So for example, if you run AS3 from a USB device that gets the drive letter E: the first time, and the drive letter G: the next, the path for the rules file in the registrey will update accordingly. However, this is not the case for the key specifying the path to the logfile repository. This path is set in the application, as an absolute path. Regardless of what drive letter your USB device got this time, the application will still try to save log files to the path that you set in the app. That path will also be put in the registry key.

But, if you can live with either A) Editing the log folder path as set in the app, or B) skip having log files written, plus C) leaving registry keys behind on each computer where it is run, then AS3 will run and do its job from one computer to another, without tweaking, regardless of current drive letter.

...and yes, the path is pointed at where it have it on my hardrive,

I installed this AS3 firewall via Sandboxie, and copied all the files to my desktop, I ran it from jauntpe and it always says "Path not found." even After I modified the registry file that jauntpe made with the fullpaths to the files. Any ideas?

wierd, i tryed this and it didnt work for me at first either,
try it with the JPE 1.5.dll,
i got it to work using that and the JPE wizard by crownixx,
idk if that had anything to do with it, but i used it since i was creating the stuff alot and it worked, so yeah,

but its wierd cause i was running it off my USB stick as a child app that JPE caught and it worked fine before with like 1.1 or 1.2 or something, O_o

I have searched on the Internet for a portable firewall
but there was not much success, i found only one program which
worked somewhat that is X-DcFirewall which is opensource as well
but there is a problem with DcFirewall that the longer it
runs the more system becomes sulligish i think it has some
memory problem, can someone fix this problem.

I've been looking for a portable firewall solution since I got started on the site. I think Magibon points out why we don't have one, but it seems like such a thing would be possible via a local proxy or something similar. The only possibility I've seen lately is a front-end for the Win 7 firewall settings configuration mentioned by Klon

The closest thing in the database would probably be PeerBlock http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1559 or turning up Window's security settings using XPY or XP-AntiSpy.
