DokuWiki on a Stick

#1 Post by appsuser »

This is kind of old, but DokuWiki is still under development while the MicroApache website seems to be down. Maybe it will still be useful for some.

DokuWiki on a Stick
DokuWiki on a Stick is a preconfigured DokuWiki installation which comes with its own stripped down Apache webserver. This allows you to run DokuWiki from a portable device like an USB stick on any Windows computer without installing anything on the computer itself.
Instructions for running MicroApache, accessing the DokuWiki, and upgrading DokuWiki to the latest version are in the README.txt file.

Interesting. Would really like to see MicroApache applied to more web-based freeware here on the site, assuming it comes back online. Also, I've looked at DokuWiki before and its pretty cool.

Thanks

Old topic update: Dokuwiki on a Stick still available and developed; current stable release is 2016-06-26a "Elenor of Tsort" (changelog at https://www.dokuwiki.org/changes).

https://www.dokuwiki.org/dokuwiki wrote:DokuWiki is a simple to use and highly versatile Open Source wiki software that doesn't require a database. It is loved by users for its clean and readable syntax. The ease of maintenance, backup and integration makes it an administrator's favorite.

Steps to get a fully portable local wiki running in no time:

- go to download.dokuwiki.org/;
- Select "Stable" under "Version";
- Select "MicroApache" under "Include Web-Server" (currently composed of Apache 2.4.23, PHP 5.6.25, GD2 and SQLite);
- Click "Toogle all" button under "Languages", then select any individual additional language you may want apart form English;
- You may also select any plugin proposed under "Popular Plugins" (not recommended);
- Scroll to the bottom and click "Start download" button;
- Extract the downloaded archive anywhere and double click the 'run.cmd' file inside the 'DokuWikiStick' folder;
- A command console window will open, a Windows firewall prompt will eventually display and Dokuwiki's setup page will open in system the default browser;
- Fill the elements in the setup form (mainly the administrator user name and password) and you're ready to start editing your own Wiki.

To finish, first close Dokuwiki's page in the browser, then the console window ("Press any key to continue...") and you're ready to move to the next computer.

The initial storage cost of Dokuwiki on a Stick is a little less than 17MB when first deployed.

Old thread update: this project is still in development and the DocuWiki on a Stick component page has also seen additions. The program now requires Win7+ and Visual Studio: https://www.dokuwiki.org/install:dokuwiki_on_a_stick

I also really like that they address steps to update the software.

Caught this while updating the Webpage-based apps thread.
