Don't know about a portable MSReader, but I've sometimes needed to convert .lit files to other formats. Which can be carried anywhere, of course.

For this, I've used the freeware ABC Amber Lit Converter, which converts LIT files to PDF, HTML, CHM, RTF, HLP, DOC, and many more.
