Is Opera 12 standard portable or not ? (3)
Opera - pick of the crop
Hi
advice please
I'm refreshing an old system and want an Opera browser option
as a secondary browser and mail client.
Opera was once cheered but those days seem gone here on the forum.
So which version would you guys recommend ?
Version / build and from where?
I need XP32bit, but picks for higher Win vers will be of use to others
Thanks

Official Opera FTP server (grab one package quickly, don't know how long this lasts under Google's management): ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/win/ Use the latest version (12.15) as they say it has the most bugs fixed.

Thanks Joby
It was your expert opinion I was hoping for
and it seems nobody else differs

The Opera listing has just been updated to v15, however the description and various other fields need to be rewritten to reflect v15.
is it stealth?
Re: Is Opera 12 standard portable or not ?
In the comments it's been suggested to keep an Opera 12 entry beside the new "Chrompera" one. I would say that's a good idea since Opera Software will still support Opera 12 for a while (if I remember correctly). BTW, I don't think that Chrompera has been thoroughly tested for portability yet.

Is it possible to update old Opera (v12) extensions? Some of them have built-in update, but some do not.

AFAIK, more recent version of a very large amount of extensions no longer support Opera 12. From Opera 12's extension manager you will only find compatible extensions in their catalogue. You will see, there aren't as many as when you browse with Opera 40+, and many of them are quite old and haven't been updated in years.
