is there a file manager that let me tag files and folder ?

#1 Post by giulia » Fri May 21, 2021 6:55 am

hi
outside xyplorer , is there a 100% portable file manager that let me tag many files and folder to copy to another destination?

about tags , I need to perform the same tasks or similar tasks with more files (so i have to keep the list tagged and add/tag others)

i need to perform such tasks not only today , but for example often
I like a lot total commander , i know it's not free , but it doesn't have tag feature , it has comment ,that not the same thing
thanks

Free Commander lets you create 'file containers'. So, you can add files/folders to a container and then move/copy them somewhere else.

Not sure if it's exactly what you need?

Please loop us in if you find something for this. I also have a few uses for a file tagging program and have not had great luck with those I've tested.

Have you looked into TagSpaces?

Just saw one on Softpedia. Not quite a file manager, but does appear to handle tagging a bit better than some programs I've seen:

I use and swear by FenrirFS. It is tagging software, better than others I've seen, and portable (haven't fully decided if it is stealth, but it appears to be so as it is mostly Windows MRU tags that get set in the registry). So far I have profiles for my documents, academic papers and articles, my family and genealogy photos, my book collection (supplements calibre), and my historic map collection. DIfferent tags for each profile, so none are overwhelming.

Forum discussion is here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=25310&hilit=fenrir

Unless you read Japanese, there is no user guide. I have created one for my brother, for his family and professional photo collection, but which I am updating as I develop my usage of FenrirFS more. I can send it to you directly in its current state, and will later perhaps put it on a shareable google drive, if you like.

I found another tagging file manager: https://tabbles.net/ -- claims to have a portable version right on the homepage. Unfortunately, the free version has quite a few limits: https://tabbles.net/buy-tabbles/ ... but this is clearly the most mature and feature-rich option tool I've seen.
