reminds me of thinapp but free, i'll try it on weekend when i got time

Well It needs alot of improvement,but its not bad.
It will virtualize your apps and you can use them from any where on the system,
but it doesnt create traceless applications like we would hope for it too.
It definately needs some documentation for the package editor and how to use it.
Would probably enhance the packages made if I knew what I was doing

It seemed kinda iffy that it has to connect to the net on first run (Joby_toss has got me paranoid now)
but I think that is just for the ID number you are given.

You can use unixtract instead of installing (then run the packager exe)

On first run it takes a sytem snapshot that seems really slow
and you get a boat load of registry entries (I think it stores the snapshot there).

Cameyo will even let you use the app on itself...which is actually better as it sandboxes the snapshot
and you only get 2 short registry entries when used:

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-329068152-776561741-725345543-500\Software\Cameyo
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cameyo

but each application creates a sandbox in the User's appdata (Appdata\VOS\application name)
as well as registry keys for each application :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VOS\application
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-329068152-776561741-725345543-500\Software\VOS\appliation

I think its got potential tho
Its really tiny too,less than 3mb.

Well this seems more like an installer cloner like installrite or something.
..I dont know enough yet
The sandbox resembles ThinApp's but it seems like its just extracting
and doing a silent install of sorts.
The programs are just run from the appdata folder instead of their install directory,
and all the registry entries are routed to the VSO key.

I am sure I can make some use of it tho.

It's real application virtualization (like ThinApp), not just silent installer. The difference is: there is no "write isolation" (write sandbox).

Do you mean no sandboxing (isolation) capabilities? That's right, no sandbox right now.

Right, it's for the ID number (the software is free & without download forms, so this is the only way of knowing how many people are using it); I'll make sure we document and clarify that.

I love the idea, but it's supposed to be easy for anyone to use. With NO guide, instructions, documentation, or help file the average user remains at a loss...

I'm finally taking a shot on Cameyo.
As a first opinion (not even installed it, just read some articles and forum posts) ... I don't expect much at this stage.
Let's see how it goes.

I think it has potential to fail the users system, because if you have an application running in the background I presume these actions will be logged, unless it attaches itself to the installation EXE?

Hope this works as easily as some blogs *imply*.

Forum posts on Wilders' sounded discouraging, but I think some posters wanted something as simple to use as Notepad.

its easy to use just disappointting lol
tried it, the sandbox doesnt work too well if at all
it needs .net
and when i moved between machines it was 50/50 chance of it not working right...

seems like only things that work are ones that by design already work out of installation folder so might as well just install it and copy files over :S

Evalaze (Its also free for personal use)

Evalaze is a Solution for Application Virtualization. Evalaze was developed since 2009 from the German company Dögel IT-Management, which has its headquarters in Halle/Saale.

The application is packaged in a single, self contained EXE file which can be used instantly. When the final EXE file exceeds a size of 10 MB a DAT file is automatically created as primary data container.

That allows you to use different applications without any installation on the host PC or server. The usage of virtualized software does not create entries in the registry and none DLL files are compiled on the host PC. All information which are required and the needed libraries are included in the EXE file. All User data and documents are saved in a sandbox. The sandbox can be placed to the same location like the EXE or at any other place. The evalazed application can run locally on the client or even run from portable hardware like USB devices. Therefore the usage on many different client scenarios is possible.

Also the easy deployment, the usability on clients without administrative rights and the possibility to use different versions of software at the same time is comfortable. Because you avoid changes in the system the security of these systems is warranted, all changes remain in the sandbox.

I think it requires .NET as well to install ,so I didnt test it by making any portables
but I did download several of the example portables made with Evalaze.
It behaves more like ThinApp but I dont think its quite the same as ThinApp.
I was thinking about installing dotnet just to try it out capturing an install.

I am not sure if its optional when making a portable or not
but the example portables on the site come with healthy splash screens.
which was kinda annoying with the portable CamStudio I tested,
but I did like the info that was being displayed when opening,its just big red and ugly.

I just tested to see if the apps would open and work,I didnt think to check for leaks with any of them.

My verdict: Cameyo is not for me. Not ready yet. But I look forward for the new versions.
