Cool stuff on Youtube

#1 Post by joby_toss »

Here's a nice sound-physics-puzzle PC game:

http://www.ruratae.com/

P.S. I titled this topic in a simple way, to avoid creating multiple topics for things I/we find on youtube.

@Andrew: is it possible to have the youtube video directly displayed in a message (to avoid leaving the forum by following a youtube link)?

EDIT: Thank you very much, Andrew! :P

Well since this a topic for youtube stuff I guess I could post some other useful youtube related software here to help ya'll in your youtube experience.

https://greasyfork.org/scripts/413-youtube-link-title - Youtube links when clicked generate a moveable popup video within the page. Should solve your problem Joby without embedding the video.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... all-html5/ - Firefox addon to play Youtube video in HTML5.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... /flashgot/ - It's primarily a download manager companion but it can download every youtube video/audio file through Firefox. Also seems to find the the direct download link to MP4's for "other" sites with flash video players as well.
http://fy.3dyd.com/ - Youtube component for Foobar2000. Let's you play and search youtube video/audio in foobar. Can create playlists using Youtube URL's.
http://ys.3dyd.com/ - Youtube directshow source filter. Lets you play youtube videos directly in your favorite directshow player like MPC-HC.
http://yd.3dyd.com/ - Youtube downloader. Pretty much a complete downloader and transcoder for youtube. Download every possible quality including separate video, audio and subtitles if available. Shame its not portable though.

@ Andrew: You can use the embed code on YouTube's site to make a BB code so users can display YouTube movies inside of their posts:

Admin CP -> Custom BB Codes -> Add New BB Code

Title - YouTube
Tag - youtube
Replacement:

Code: Select all

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/{param}"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/{param}" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Description: Use the movie code from the YouTube URL in your browser. For example, http://youtube.com/watch?v=L3heOYwZrG8

Example: [youtube]L3heOYwZrG8[/youtube]

Done. But modified to use the current embed code provided by YouTube.

Here's a test:

They might be trying to get more publicity... they might be doing it already... but it sounds noble, right? :?

This is a hard one. Is it security theater (a big production designed to inspire confidence)? Is Apple trying to differentiate themselves in a market where everyone is losing ground to Android especially in China?

Ultimately Apple isn't going anywhere, meaning they're tied to US interests and have no real ability to decline participation in a serious backdoor request. I suspect all the US government has to do is ban possession by even just DoD employees from Apple for a quarter or two.

Agreed, but what about other country? Is these so called 'Backdoor request' will be removed when Apple product are sold outside the U.S.?
I suspect it will go this way, IMHO: they will not do it but...
Somehow part of the code/hardware will have security hole that will leaks to the FBI and everyone is happy. Or maybe not... Apple forced to comply? How these backdoors will operate and when they will be not in term of uses? Wiring all apple's phone? And even legitimate, what about protecting them to unauthorized access? Only the future will tell. I hope my suspicion is a complete conspiracy theory paranoia, nothing more. On the other hand the Youtube video whistle is 'making' noise and it might attract some people to research if it is done or not. Nice reaction from Apple anyway.
I suspect all the US government has to do is ban possession by even just DoD employees from Apple for a quarter or two.
Wow this is harsh. Is it even possible without law or law that permits this exists already in the U.S.? The way it is presented is IMHO: blackmail.
Have a nice day.

I've always wanted a portable desktop PC (like a briefcase, with powerful desktop components, not excelling in portability, but when you need to...).

What's the point? Laptops have already reached desktops in performance (although one needs to pay more for that).
