Virtualization Hits USB Drives

#1 Post by Gary »

Interesting, this:

"Virtualization software leader VMware Inc. is testing a desktop virtualization program that can be stored on a USB drive and moved from one computer to another."

Interesting indeed. Wonder if it will work without the server thingy, to suit us innocent portable freeware users :-D

Download is too big for me at this stage - would be much interested in your experiences, though.

Hi Chris!

A significant implication here is that all apps would be 'portable' if executed from within this virtualized environment, so no code adjustments for portability would be necessary.

Will share my findings...

Exactly, that would be the beauty of it :-)

However, *if* it works in a portable manner, the question still remains what will be the level of possible interaction with the host-machine. While it would be nice to have your own environment - if you have no access to the internet because there is no transparent sharing, there won't be much joy :-(

So keep this in mind when testing, I'm very curious to hear from you!

Cheers
Chris
