Re: Thunderbird - email and calendar client
I plan on setting up a separate, portable instance to test TB v115. I have some addons I rely on and hope they still work properly in v115.

Re: Flying Carpet - utility for versatile file transfer
The cross-platform list provided by freakazoid was helpful for other reasons, but so far, I have not been able to transfer from Android 7 to Win 7, seems like I am always missing some vital component. :x Try LanXChange or LocalSend. They should work on Android 7. LanXchange on Windows requires Java...

Re: AutoRun LWMenu
Thanks for the explanation, lwc. Similar to the PortableApps launcher, yaP is able to backup directories to a filepath of your choosing and is able to restore that directory when yaP launches so apps can run more steathy. This is most notable for apps that write to %localappdata% or %appdata%. You c...

Re: AkelPad (ultra lightweight text editor)
From the AkelPad forums, there is a new, third-party build of AkelPad. This one is on GitHub - https://github.com/ssrlive/akelpad. This incorporates the latest changes from the AkelPad SourceForge SVN and also uses Visual Studio 2010 to build AkelPad instead of Visual Studio 2003 - https://github.co...

Re: Flying Carpet - utility for versatile file transfer
Didn't know about this one. Thanks MakoSoft! I've added this to my cross-platform file sending list over here - viewtopic.php?p=103969#p103969.

Re: AutoRun LWMenu
Hey lwc, came across your LWMenu when you mentioned it as a possible yaP replacement in this topic - https://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=105101. I checked the [BUTTON5] example from autorun.inf and the parameters I'm interested in the most are: registry=HKCU\Software\advanced +HK...

Re: WinAuth (two-factor authenticator)
Noticed this app was listed in TPFC, but was private so I upvoted it so others can find it. I did edit the entry to mention that the app is no longer in development as of 2019. There is one fork on GitHub that has fixes for Steam: https://github.com/auwaho/winauth. Does anyone know of any other two-...

Re: yt-splitter (youtube albums)
For albums, I do not save the cover artwork directly into the audio file, but rather as a separate file named folder.jpg. Most Windows and some Android music apps will pick up that image in the same directory. There's a python script called CoverLovin2 that can download cover artwork into your album...

NanaZip - A 7-Zip fork
Came across NanaZip, which is a fork of 7-Zip: https://github.com/M2Team/NanaZip This one appears to use a more, modern toolchain to build the GUI and has a few, additional features as well. An .exe version is not available. Can only use the Microsoft Store or the .msixbundle package to install it, ...

Re: K-Meleon (alternative engine web browser)
I've kind of stopped playing around with K-Meleon as it's still running an outdated version of Gecko. There's no point in testing browsers based on outdated browser engines unless you're using limited hardware running on Windows XP/Vista/7.

Re: CCode - new small and powerful text editor.
A promising, new editor! Reminds me of AkelPad.
Just did a quick test and CCode doesn't scale well on HiDPI screens. Hopefully this can be addressed in a future release. Also would be nice if we can change the font as well.

Re: WinAuth (two-factor authenticator)
Just gave this a try. Settings are initially written to %appdata%\WinAuth. However, if you close WinAuth and copy and paste the WinAuth.xml file next to WinAuth.exe, WinAuth should be portable afterwards.

Re: Lite & Lite-XL (LUA-based text editors)
I was testing Lite XL today. It's not bad, but there are things I miss from other editors such as code folding. It's an editor to keep an eye on though.
To make Lite XL save settings in the same directory, create a directory called 'user' where lite-xl.exe resides.
