Re: Format Factory (powerful media converter)

I can try to capture them tonight, but when it comes to InProcServer, I have another worry. You have to make sure they don't exist when you add/change them because they may be used for other software, so in removing them, if you are not careful, you can mess up your system. This is because these are...

Re: PicPick 2.1.3

Seems like an MRU-like thing, in that various apps update the font cache with their usage etc. I am thinking this would still qualify as portable, though. Others?

Re: Search and replace with variables

I do that with Ted Noteapd (permalink:http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=858) quite frequently. Now I am not doing it from command line arguments, but I will often open up files with it, and use the "Columns, Numbers" function to create incremental numbering. For example, select the text (...

Note that your reference is to version 1.4.0 or 1.4.1 is now outdated, and spacemonkey posted the update to 1.5.0 with significant improvements: http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3861 You can place the embedded files either in the current or the Temporary directory (which I ...

Re: Software to enable/disable autorun

Not to get too technical here, but I have it figured out, as algorithm, and someone can create the small single-purpose app, if one does not yet exist. It is binary math using teh AND logical function that determines the drives where AutoRun is allowed. Using RegFromApp and TweakUI, the registry key...

Re: Software to enable/disable autorun

Many ways. Here is what I think is one of the easiest, and is found here on TPFC TweakUI (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=497) Click on My Computer, AutoPlay (synonym ofr Autorun), and undo the tick for any drive letters you do not want to allow autoruns. I have used it for my XP and Vi...

Re: Regshot 2

I'd been trying to link to 2.0.1.68 for some time but had no better success than 2.0.1.59. Thanks, In my tests and usage of Regshot 2 over the past couple years, I found that the only three files required really are Regshot.exe, regshot.ini, and language.ini The bmp files are aesthetic and not reall...

Re: HHReg

By its very definition, it is not portable, I'm afraid. Each time you add a file or folder, the Registry registers that file ro folder of HLP and CHM files as allowable exceptions, i.e. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions] "UrlAllowList"="\\\\networkserver\\networkfo...

Re: What tools do you use to test Portability?

I do low-end-style checking. Depends.exe to check dependencies quickly. RegShot or RegFromApp to check registry entries RegFromApp is quicker as it is real-time, but occasionally hangs. As I find Regshot very slow for doing directories, I use Everything to quickly tell me if there is application dat...

Re: open source

DIA Portable is oft-mentioned as a portable alternative to Visio.
It does NOT open the proprietary visio .vsd files, and I am not aware of any software that does, other than the correct version of Visio itself.

When I did a Google-Translate of the home page, it said clearly that the Portable version is Shareware. The German original says the same. My tests so far show that the freeware version is definitely NOT portable--it creates a slough-load of classes and other registry items. It seems an excellent so...

Re: Context portable Another Text Programmers Notepad

The keys you have specified are ones that get modified no matter portable program you use. The first is ComDLG32--I think it gets modified if you use the Open/Save dialogue. The MRU keys (look at the end of the keyname) means "Most Recently Used" and Windows creates these to keep track of Recent fil...

Re: Auto run from USB stick?

Thanks for mention USBDLM, but changes to the USBDLM configuration do not require a restart or reinstall of the USBDLM service to take effect. Uwe Sieber Wow, that's a lot of keystrokes I could have saved, had I read your documentation better  I'll remember for my next configuration changes.
