Re: Reader for help files?
Sorry for bouncing a very old thread but I'd appreciate some technical advice. Just like the OP, I wanted a reader for .hlp files. Baas's advice was correct and is the recommended approach but it is not portable. The fix may not exist on every PC encountered. joby_toss's suggestion of using the XP e...

Re: AudioStreamer
Thanks for the post!
Potentially useful application.
Pity the creators couldn't be bothered to find a better name.
There is already an AudioStreamer - an internet radio application - by RMBSoft.
Confusing.

Re: ScreenShooter - simple screencaps w/ sharing and annotat
Thanks for the post but... I get irritated when a programmer can't be bothered to invent a unique name for his creation. As shnbwmn states there is already a Screenshooter in the database,. If you google, there are several others on the Web. The Home Site is quite uninformative. No change log. No de...

Re: Open Broadcaster Software (OBS)
As far as I can see, PortableApps.com actually provides a portable version.
Currently it's at OBS Portable 0.14.2 Dev Test 1. You can find it on ...

I stand corrected Baas. Sorry about that!
I'll excuse myself to some extent because the Search facility in the Forum is not very intelligent.

Re: RawReg - reghive viewer/editor
@shnbwmn mentioned Buster's Sandbox Analyser (BSA) in passing. There is no other mention of it in TPFC. I took a look at the program and just as shnbwmn wrote, it is complex. The instructions blow your mind! It is stated to be portable. I suspect that it isn't for its main use, as it requires WinPC...

Re: jDownloader
Interesting that midas bumped this topic! I've been using JDownloader for several years. For all that time it has been stable and safe. I think it has an added benefit of avoiding those situations where a website hijacks your screen. In the old days it was possible to overcome download limits by cha...

Scion PC (genealogy)
The recent post by jcd925ec of Visual Family Tree Maker seemed to engender a reasonable amount of interest. I had a look at the link that Baas gave (in answer to webfork ) and saw that the review found a lot of problems. Not uncommon with genealogical programs so I thought I'd provide an alternative...

Re: MD5Checker
From the interest that this program generates it's clear that there is quite a lot of knowledge around.
Can someone please let me know who the author or software house is.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Flashnote
@I am Bass has already mentioned that 'Smart Screen' blocks the download.
Microsoft Security Essentials also deletes the file because of a virus detect.
I am curious as to whether other anti-virus products detect anything.
Has anyone used virustotal?

Re: Anagram Generator
@Specular When I first came across this program I liked it but recognised that it had some limitations. I corresponded regularly with the author and he made a number of changes culminating in a version that is a very useful crossword helper. With regard to your point I found it a little too technic...

Re: Anagram Generator
@tactictoe You're right - that's why I like reading your contributions. EDIT When I looked at my emails I found the author had produced another upgrade (1.9) Although the Word Search worked for single word solutions, there was no possibility of finding multi-word solutions. This has now been remedie...
