Re: Random Copy

I use ReNaMeR by Den4b to do exactly this. https://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=562 I copy my mp3s to a temp directory, then rename them using the Randomize rule. I then copy them to the memory stick or my old mp3 player. On one player, no longer around, I also had to wipe the tags first, b...

Re: TreePAD

If you dig, Elisa's post is there (open the replies). It appears she made an account on Alternative.to in November 2020, and made the remark about Henk's passing a year previous, which makes sense with respect to the last updates of Treepad being 2018 or 2019. Treepad truly was a great early PIM. I ...

Re: PDF tools grouped by feature

FYI, here's an excellent and comprehensive related article: www.bitsgalore.org/2021/09/06/pdf-processing-and-analysis-with-open-source-tools This is quite the tour de force, Midas, thanks. I quickly looked at the capabilities of the CLI tool pdfcpu, and it appears to rival cPDF in its comprehensive...

Re: PDF tools grouped by feature

Irfanview with the PDF Plugin (https://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=49) has thumbnail view!

Open a file in the folder of PDFs, then press {T} There are many options of what you can do with selected PDFs there.

Re: Extra Keys [character input utility]

ExtraKeys Pro is now at version 2.2.7. The zip file indicates June 18, 2022 for last changes. The Readme states version 2.2.6; the .chm helpfile indicates 2.2.7. I cannot find any description of specific changes between the versions. The download .zip continues at https://www.deeproot.co.uk/extrakey...

Re: PDF-XChange Editor

Just thought I'd add my two-cents worth about using PDF-XChange Editor. I keep going back and forth on whether to spring for the Licensed version (portable, of course), but the only advantage for what I do is really in base layer editing, and for that so far I use workarounds. I used jobytoss' metho...

Re: Button-heavy mice software?

My recommendation is to play with the mouse for awhile, and see which mouse buttons your fingers easily press, accidentally press, or find difficult to press. I have found that with my arthritis and tendonitis, even a vertical mouse no longer works for me well, and some buttons on my 6-button mouse ...

Wow! I haven't seen Jan's software in years. There used to be a few more pieces; I used Jan's charting software for years back then--I know it was during floppy disk days.

I am now using PDF Arranger at least weekly, allowing me to finally cull half a dozen other PDF tools from my toolkit.

PDF Arranger gets my run-off vote.

Re: FreewareFiles gone for good?

For years, Ronald's FreewareFiles was second for me only to PortableFreeware. It had more choices because he included non-portable, and it would be the second place to look if I couldn't find it here. He is definitely missed. Blessings to his family.

Re: Looking for a specialty screen ruler

I'd checked PDF-XChange Editor, and discovered the same as you did; thanks for checking Foxit, webfork. Wasting too much time on this--I found a meantime easy solution (non-software). I discovered the [Avery Printable Ruler](https://www.avery.com/resources/avery-printable-ruler.pdf) [PDF-file], whic...

It appears the last Wayback Machine successful capture is November 28 2021. https://web.archive.org/web/20211128234 ... files.com/

I suppose that as long as we use the external downloads, we can use this image, as it seems the internal links are clickable.

Looking for a specialty screen ruler

I have done a search, as yet to no avail, to find a screen ruler that does percentages of the thing being measured, not just the whole screen. For instance, if I have a PDF document, and I want to split a page vertically or horizontally, most page splitters (PDF Arranger, K2pdfopt, Briss) work on pe...
