Re: Media Player - 32-bit better than 64-bit ?

Thank You, System and JohnTHaller ! From You comments I gather that the most likely causes for my "a-v video desynch" problem is: either highly optimized decoding/post-processing code, or a buggy 64-bit code in the 64-bit software version. I decided to have two parallel Sm Player versions ...

Media Player - 32-bit better than 64-bit ? (resolved)

Normally, I upgrade all software from 32-bit to 64-bit without hesitation , but I have a scenario here which makes me wonder if it is perhaps better to stay with a 32-bit version (on a 64-bit system). I am classical portable freeware user, with a media player on a USB stick , which I use on differe...

Re: Media Player - Settings per File

WebFork wrote: Having a config file to go along with the hoops I had to jump through to get it playing correctly would be amazing. SmPlayer saves these individualized (per video) config files in the sub-folder named "file_settings", whose location depends on the SmPlayer version that You ...

Re: Media Player - Settings per File

I got one ! Light Alloy ( http://light-alloy.verona.im/ ) can do the same thing ! Although, they do not mention it anywhere in the features (they do not brag about it). The individualized settings are saved for brightness, contrast, saturation, volume. I do not know yet for how long these individual...

Re: Best Player for MadVR Codec

Thanks, Userfriendly ! Now, for the sake of a good discussion, permit me to play the devil's advocate ... FFDshow is not portable since it saves settings in the registry I see that statement often when I search this topic on the web. So what of it, if it writes to the registry ? Almost all of these ...

Re: Best Player for MadVR Codec

Userfriendly , What You just described is fantastic ! Basically it is about making MadVR portable and easily transferable to another PC (with customized settings). Can You do the same with FFDshow ? I have been trying unsuccessfully for a long time to find or make FFDshow portable. If You know how ...

Best Player for MadVR Codec

MadVR is an amazing codec, but I somehow am not able to get a portable player that can use the MadVR features to the full. E.g. Zoom Player claims to deliver PixelShaders with MadVR, but fails to deliver that on my PC. Also, MadVR offers high quality algorithms for scaling, sharpening, debanding, d...

Re: Media Player - Settings per File

As I feared ...

There does not seem to be another player that can do that,
other than SmPlayer.

Some players can do "configuration presets",
but not save settings automatically per each file.

Media Player - Settings per File

After decades of using media players , this is what I found to be the most underrated feature : the ability to automatically save customized settings for each and every video file separately ! You are familiar with the scenario : 1. You obtain a bunch of videos. 2. You open the first one to check it...

Re: StaxRip - comprehensive video encoder

I agree, great program, best results out there in most categories (e.g. when deinterlacing video). However, portability is a complete disaster (there are many components that need to be installed). Upgrading this program is a real pain in the ass ! On 2016-04-19, I tried upgrading from version 1.3.2...

Re: Chromium-Based Browsers - Portability Problem !

Dear Giulia, Iridium Browser is NOT "fully portable" as You claim. Please check the software yourself (on two different PCs or devices) before asserting anything, also read the first paragraph of this post to understand what this is all about (dah) ! It is fine to express Your general admi...

Re: Browser Safety and Privacy - Next Stage

Dear WebFork , You are right: security and privacy are - more often than not - not the same thing. But in case of online banking: no privacy (someone can read my password) = no security ! For most of my browsing, I do not care if someone is watching over my shoulder. For example, portablefreeware.c...

Re: Browser Safety and Privacy - Next Stage

System, When You put it like that about the economic interests of the browser developers , and consider the logical next step or two (the "consequence"), then it is in the best interest of the browsers to be very "leaky" with Your information. Just find buyers, and the industry w...

Re: Browser Safety and Privacy - Next Stage

System from Helsinki, thank You. I get it: an adblocker makes a "request" to download filter lists (data going out) and it can put anything it likes in that "message" (including your private information). Then, where do You see the next strategic improvement ? That, perhaps, the...

Browser Safety and Privacy - Next Stage

I have a strategic thought, and I would like to get some feedback. Why are browsers themselves not like firewalls ? Meaning: a one way street in the flow of information, unless I explicitly give permission otherwise. Any information that I asked for can come in, but for any information to go out fro...
