Re: Spybot - Search & Destroy portablized by PortableApps.co

I hope you guys at PA.com have a Fire Blanket? Because you're on fire with releases these last couple of months. :D It started as the 31 days of app-ness for December... and we decided to just keep going. :) 34 new apps in 34 days. The first 32 are all listed here: http://portableapps.com/news/2011...

Spybot - Search & Destroy portablized by PortableApps.com

[ Mod note: the present is the official forum topic of Spybot Search & Destroy ; https://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=2047] --- We just released Spybot as a portable app over at PortableApps.com. It was a bit trickier than usual due to the way it updates and requires admin for some functionality. Bu...

Re: Notepad2-mod

If you want all these additional features, why not just use Notepad++? Notepad2's strength was always its complete simplicity.

Re: MPRESS - a UPX alternative

That and some anti virus software has a nasty habit of flagging compressed executables as viruses due to bad heuristics. Quite true. This happens far less with UPX these days, though. The popularity of PortableApps.com has helped a bit; having millions of users out there to complain about false pos...

Re: MPRESS - a UPX alternative

I didn't know that. I take it that apps compressed with UPX can be redistributed of course! Thanks for the warning. Correct. UPX is open source (under the GPL) and has exceptions for the license built in allowing you to use it with software under any license you're allowed to distribute it as. That...

Re: MPRESS - a UPX alternative

It should be noted that GPLed binaries compressed with MPRESS can not be redistributed. The inability to decompress is an issue. I also thought I'd read that it slows apps down startup-wise compared to UPX (UPX in general is only a 1% difference or less).

Re: Display multilanguage support at entries

For example, change the UI to Chinese on a Russian Windows. The last time I checked Delphi didn't support this. It does now and the current 2.0 Beta of the PortableApps.com Platform (written in Delphi 2010) will show Chinese (Simplified or Traditional) on Russian Windows without issue. It didn't us...

Re: UUID Generator

Wow, I kind of understand Delphi, even though I have never used it. Another good example. It's Visual Pascal and it isn't too hard to follow. An app like this is pretty easy to implement (took me under 30 minutes to fully code, package and post). It's only 100 lines total including the bits to hand...

UUID-GUID Generator Portable

If what you need is hotkeys, you can use UUID-GUID Generator Portable at PortableApps.com. ALT-G to generate. ALT-B to turn braces on and off. ALT-C to copy to clipboard. You highlight and copy part of it as well. It's portable, remembers whether you like your braces on and off, and it's open source...

Re: Free UPX 1.0

I found only 2 UPX tools in the database, I think this one is by far the best. There are a few different tools. Free UPX is handy because it gives you fine-grained access to everything UPX has settings wise. We have it packaged in PortableApps.com Format so that it also portablizes your settings fi...

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird Portable privacy issue

I added an additional fix to the 3.1.7 release that makes doubly sure that this key is not left behind. It's been tested on clean-install PCs with no mail count that are missing this key (which seems to be a factor in the issue for some people). If you have left this key behind on any PC, I have a u...

Re: Ad-Aware being set off by AHk

One day NSIS will be flagged too. It happens occasionally with specific NSIS plugins, but NSIS is used for installers by everything from Firefox to OpenOffice.org to Kaspersky Antivirus to Winamp. It's the second most popular installer language worldwide. So, the flags are promptly removed. AHK and...

This happens a lot with AutoIT and AHK on multiple antivirus and antispyware tools.
