Re: ArcThemALL!

Why exactly do you disagree with webfork? The current content of the license field of the Universal Extractor entry is perfectly accurate ("Main program: GPL, Included libraries: various"). What advantages "Freeware with open source components" would have? (I was planning to answer my question abov...

Re: ArcThemALL!

While we are at it... Can Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition be called open source? One can't legally edit it and redistribute the edited copy after that.[*] The restriction directly defeats one of the objectives of free software . ("None of the users can adapt or fix the program.") [*] The name and...

Re: ArcThemALL!

Edit : I may have found an example of what I'm describing: PortableApps Chrome is listed as BSD-licensed with a GPL launcher . Wikipedia however lists some components as proprietary due to integration with Adobe Flash. Assuming this is correct, how should we describe Portable Chrome's license when ...

Re: ArcThemALL!

License: Freeware with open source components I recommend following the long-standing convention set by Universal Extractor and many other programs here on the site. List whatever the main program is, then make a note about open and closed internals. For example, "Main program: GPL, Components: Var...

Re: ArcThemALL!

You could keep it as-is and just call it Freeware with mostly open source components, too. It's not a huge deal if your tool isn't 100% open source, it's just important to be fully upfront about it. If you don't care about MPRESS much, you could leave it as an advanced option where if the user downl...

Hmm? I don't see it creating a desktop shortcut on any of my boxes or VMs in testing.

Re: ArcThemALL!

The situation is a bit different from uTorrent Portable, that is a launcher package that download a freeware app during installation and without that app it doesn't work at all. I think at the moment we can classify ArcThemALL! as Open Source with freeware components and in next release I'll create...

Re: ArcThemALL!

I think it can be considered Open Source GPL and not Freeware with Open Source components , because the distributed package is fully open source and under GPL.. the only closed source component is external and separately downloaded if the user desire it.. is not correct? As it's one of the main adv...

Ah quite right. I'd missed that. In that case, hosting on SF is fine. Sorry for the confusion. It still stands that if you select MPRESS, the package isn't open source anymore, though.

Re: ArcThemALL!

As MPRESS is a non-operating system closed source component, you'll either need to host it somewhere other than SourceForge or remove MPRESS. SourceForge is for open source software only. Including MPRESS makes this app a freeware app (overall license due to MPRESS) with open source components.

Re: Spybot - Search & Destroy portablized by PortableApps.co

Thanks for Spybot. However, for me settings are not remembered (language, default/advanced mode for example). Can someone confirm this? I can confirm this. It appears it is due to the language switching component of the launcher. I'll take a look at it and hopefully have a fix posted within about a...

Re: Spybot - Search & Destroy portablized by PortableApps.co

I was wondering do you get alot of users coming from TPFC PAF DB entries? This might be construed as an anti-PA.com question but on the contrary, I am thinking in terms of how helpful it is for PortableApps.com. Because as I have always thought PA & TPFC work hand in hand. Most of our new users fin...

If the #portablefreeware channel isn't busy, you guys are welcome to pop into our official channel at #portableapps. It's a support and general channel (with a request to keep things a bit quiet when someone is asking for support). We also have #portableapps-ot for off topic stuff with the same grou...
