Re: What tools do you use to test Portability?

Re: What tools do you use to test Portability?

For PortableApps.com, I use a series of clean virtual machines within VirtualBox. They're considered clean as they're a standard Windows install with just the defaults and all default Windows updates installed. The only added bit is the VirtualBox drivers to enable a fully functional testing environ...

Did you mean to add URLs to those two "here" words?
It meant "Or leave me a message here on PFC, though I may miss it here on PFC as compared to PAc as I monitor PAc more closely.". I should have been clearer.

Re: gPodder

If you have any additional time to play with it, please drop a note in our forums. Or here, though I may miss it here. I pushed out a Rev 2 of this release that updates the bundled Python and improved the side by side DLL configuration for it. This won't help your situation, as I'm still not sure wh...

Re: Hashing use cases

The PortableApps.com Platform uses MD5 hashes for download verification on all apps in the updater/app store. The PortableApps.com Installer uses MD5 hashes for download verification in live installers where the app can't legally be repackaged as per publisher request or EULA. We also publish the MD...

It's not ideal of course but I think worth including. That's a solid idea. You can omit the specific scan done and ...

Re: When to NOT make a portable version

A couple of other cases where a portable version is impossible or doesn't make much sense: Anything that needs custom drivers - for example virtual machines. If installing said drivers requires a reboot, a "portable" version would be highly awkward to use: install drivers, reboot, launch. There are...

Re: Firefox Unbranded

Couple things... first, freakazoid, how are you determining which build corresponds to the actual stable release as I see multiple 53.0 releases in different numbered folders. Second, is there interest in having a live installer for this? You can grab it and swap the files into Firefox Portable, too...

Re: Portable Skype

Skype has a bug in its removable/portable mode where it will not remember your selected language and revert to the machine's default on next start. This is mentioned on the app's homepage. Most users won't notice this as they only use PCs in their preferred language.

Re: Geek Uninstaller

Unfortunately, the word "portable" means different things to different people. To many, it just means 'will it run without me having to install it'. They don't care if the settings are stored locally and left behind on each PC. There are several apps like this here on PFC (Autoruns, Process Monitor,...

Re: Notepad++ Portable clean the local folder.

IIRC, Notepad++ used to have a hard coded recovery directory at C:\N++RECOV which would be left behind on the local machine if Notepad++ crashed. Not sure if that is still the case.

Sorry, I don't. I don't build isotoxin itself, I just packaged it in PortableApps.com Format.

This wasn't a new hack it seems. It's still the hack from 3 years ago. It's just one billion accounts now instead of 500m accounts.
