Re: Pale Moon - web browser

For anyone curious how much speed you give up using one of these alternate Firefox-based browsers, here are their JetStream 1.1 scores on my i7-4790, 24GB, SATA SSD rig (all 64-bit variants): Firefox 57.0: 189.73 Basilisk 2017.11.12 (~Firefox 55): 178.50 (5.92% slower) Pale Moon 27.6.1 (~Firefox 52)...

Re: Vivaldi - Opera Browser Alternative

I haven't tried Vivaldi in a while, but if I'm reading the above correctly, extensions are still lost as you move PCs, correct? I don't think saving the registry keys is sufficient. The extension settings as well as passwords and some general settings in Chrome and Blink-based browsers are keyed to ...

Re: XP compatible software

If anyone's interested, it appears that the incompatibility of LibreOffice 5.4.1 and 5.4.2 with Windows XP is a bug. A patch has been submitted and should be included with 5.4.3 RC2 as well as the 5.4.3 stable release.

Re: Chromium-Based Browsers - Portability Problem !

There are detailed warnings on the Chrome Portable homepage and within the EULA page of the installer as you install it. They've been there for years since this issue first started. Personally, I advise people not to use Chrome either portable or local without logging in and syncing to Google. If yo...

Re: Problem: Not enough donations

It's worth pointing out that accepting donations via Amazon without being a legally structured nonprofit is against the terms of service (even if it isn't directly stated as such at the time) and they will permanently kill the ability for your Amazon account to ever user Amazon Pay as a payer or pay...

Re: Chromium-Based Browsers - Portability Problem !

I pinged kalug directly via email but have not heard back. The last time this came up as a bug (preventing Chrome from being copied from one PC to another without logging into Google), I believe it was called a 'feature' and tagged as WONTFIX. If that's the case, it's likely Google itself has set th...

Re: Chromium-Based Browsers - Portability Problem !

They may have changed it to enable the lockdown on Windows builds of Chromium as well as Chrome. I know Chromium used to work without issue as you move PCs. I haven't checked in quite a while, though. There's a reason I use and recommend Firefox Portable for use portably. It works without issue by d...

Re: Chromium-Based Browsers - Portability Problem !

My experience with Vivaldi is that extension settings remain. (Extensions themselves don't.) I'd wager different Chrome/Chromium-based browsers have different pieces of it enabled. I know for a fact Chrome used to wipe all extension settings, but I seem to recall a user report that that had changed...

Re: Chromium-Based Browsers - Portability Problem !

There's no trick to those other portable browsers. The base apps are built from Chromium without the lock down features enabled. Note that more than one of those launchers are actually just mildly modded versions of our Chrome, Iron, Opera, or the Chromium Portable launcher. The lock down ability of...

Re: Chromium-Based Browsers - Portability Problem !

This isn't a recent issue. This has been going on for years. We have a warning about it on the download page and in the EULA for Chrome Portable about this specifically. I suggest either logging into Google with Google Chrome Portable or using Firefox Portable, which is fully portable and has no suc...

Re: Avast have acquired Piriform

Avast welcomes Piriform, creator of CCleaner, to its team :? This could mean that bundleware is coming to CCleaner. Avast uses bundleware pretty extensively and will often do something like install Chrome and make it your default if you don't uncheck a couple boxes before clicking the Update button.

Re: Toucan - synchronise, backup and encrypt data

The official release linked on PortableApps.com is on SourceForge. The Toucan.exe launcher is rebuilt with the latest PA.c Launcher and digitally signed then packaged in a PA.c Installer and digitally signed. The release on Github is using an older toucan.exe launcher and is not digitally signed. It...

Re: Is Opera 15 standard portable or not ?

Thanks. So if I'm understanding it correctly using the PA Platform program somehow prevents the installation of the automatically downloaded auto updates upon relaunch? When used with the PortableApps.com Platform, the Opera Portable launcher automatically renames the updater file I mentioned above...

Re: Is Opera 15 standard portable or not ?

Something I can't figure out is how to disable auto updates on the PortableApps version of Opera (Blink). It auto updates my portable install to the latest version, which is surprising as I don't recall any other portable browsers I've unpacked doing this in the past. No results for 'update' in the...

Re: FileZilla entry

Also worth noting that the website switches the position of FileZilla and FileZilla Pro in the above image between downloads seemingly at random. So when you go to upgrade there's a good chance it's on the left rather than the right like it was the last time you downloaded or vice versa.
