Re: Media Player - 32-bit better than 64-bit ?
The majority of apps still have no noticeable increase in performance to an end user in day to day usage. As SYSTEM said, there are likely even some rare exceptions where highly optimized 32-bit code exists and the newer 64-bit branch of that code hasn't gotten the same optimization love as the olde...

Re: PortableApps Platform
I was seeing some kind of issue with the Start.exe program so I re-downloaded the program and tried a new install rather than updating. This process deletes all items in the PortableApps folder so I lost a lot of data. I had a recent backup so it wasn't a big deal, but just something to be aware of...

Re: XP compatible software
FTR, JohnTHaller stated (https://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2055#comment30059) that the last XP compatible Libre Office version is v5.4.3(?)... So the correct answer is here, too, LibreOffice 5.4.x maintains compatibility with Windows XP. LibreOffice Portable 5.4.4 didn't work on some Wi...

Re: Keepass Portable
there's a related program here, KeepassXC: https://keepassxc.org/project works on Linux, MacOS and Windows. Much more active than KeepassX was hi should be tested and if it's stealth add to database they have a portable version cheers It's as portable as KeePass itself is. So it works as you move P...

Re: PotPlayer
Yes, it backs up any existing keys within the registry and restores them on exit. This is a requirement for all our official releases.

Re: Vivaldi - Opera Browser Alternative
Vivaldi doesn't lose passwords as you move machines now? It did the last time I checked.

Re: PotPlayer
The PortableApps.com PAF of PotPlayer was just released though it was in testing for quite some time. It includes both the Windows XP and Vista+ versions and switches between them automatically depending on PC (only adds 208KB). It removes the registry keys on exit. And it adjusts the paths in your ...

Re: Vivaldi - Opera Browser Alternative
This is a purposeful limitation of Chrome itself and all browsers based on the same code base. It's about as portable-hostile as you can get. The Google Chrome Portable and Iron Portable launchers at PortableApps.com both have code to handle portablization of passwords. They had code to handle porta...

Re: VLC - media player
Hi John - I'm very sorry, it was my fault: Just checked the whole procedure with your v2.2.8-package and the dvdcss-folder is not left behind ! I only play DVDs with VLC in conjunction with VideoToVideo and sometimes AmokDVD in order to determine which titles/chapters I have to convert. And the dvd...

Re: VLC - media player
Side note, I'm not sure "No. Creates dvdcss folder in %APPDATA% when playing DVD." is fully explaining the issue in the listing. The fact that a folder with the name of every DVD you play is created within dvdcss would seem to be worth mentioning. For instance, when I put in my Shawshank Redemption ...

Re: VLC - media player
Well, I used your portable VLC since version 1.0 - I don't know when the dvdcss began to show up after closing VLC, but it's been a while. Unlike Firefox (where I always used the internal update function and therefore missed some launcher updates) for VLC I always downloaded your updated package an...

Re: VLC 3.0.0 portability
2. The dvdcss folder in AppData\Roaming... for me it already was created with the PortableApps-version every time I played a DVD. Since the main folder is always called "dvdcss" and the name of the DVD appears in a subfolder I wrote a small batch and convered it with Bat-To-Exe-Converter into a por...

Re: VLC - media player
Still, this is one of those edge cases where path portability and privacy items are a concern. I'll do some testing in the months ahead and make a determination. In previous cases, path portability for most recent files lists isn't taken into consideration as most advanced users will assume these b...
