Re: Firefox Portable
You can use the built in updater but it will leave some empty folders behind on the local machine. The best thing to do is update the whole app. This is automatic and super-easy with the PortableApps.com Platform and takes just a handful of steps without it: https://portableapps.com/support/portable...

Re: Clicking a link in an e-mail: show page in standard browser?
prob has to do with default browser Yes but I can't find a way to do this portably. You can set your default browser to Portable Firefox (as I have) without too much trouble. But you have to do that on every system you use. was going to mention that i have several of each firefox portable, pale moo...

Re: ClamWin Portable
Due to the availability of working Windows binaries from the official ClamAV project webpage (see http://www.clamav.net/downloads#otherversions), some of them even represented as " portable " ( untested !), I move for changing the ClamWin entry, which hasn't been updated in a long time, to ClamAV ....

Re: In final blow to 'legacy' Firefox Mozilla will be deleting XUL addons from catalog in the coming months
On Sept 5, no secure and supported version of Firefox that supports legacy extensions will exist any longer. It would be a bit counter-intuitive for an organization that promotes security to continue to support add-ons that encourage users to use insecure versions of its own software. As most of the...

It should be noted that: "Currently very basic, the Windows port is really just a demonstration at the moment."

Re: Ding-Press - 7zip front-end
So, vatterspun -- I think we know who that is -- is claiming copyright and ownership. I really should have known better about making the source code available. I'd had my doubts and misgivings and they proved right. I shall not release source code again and be taken advantage of. Releasing somethin...

Re: Telegram - cross platform, secure chat
The first option is obviously system dependent. The more intuitive option being the last, but as it doesn't take user input results in an absolute path and thus is really non-portable. After some searching, a ticket submitted back in 2015 and answered by (a now departed) Telegram " collaborator " s...

Re: PDFtk Builder [PDFtk GUI]
I'm unsure why the author isn't bundling the latest version. Licensing isn't an issue as it is GPL. Not the pdftk Windows front end, the pdftk Server command line tool that PDFTK Builder bundles. I tried replacing with the current version and doing a join as a test and it worked without issue. Split...

Re: Quick Hash GUI
Is there anything incorrect in my previous statement? :| Yes. Scroll down the page and the exact same version is available for free. It's just not digitally signed. The second section is "Free Non-Code Signed Downloads" and has both the Mac and Windows 3.0.2 installers, the same ones at the top tha...

According to the site the non-signed EXEs are free. Only the digitally signed EXEs are paid software (likely to help pay for the ~$100 per year cert).Midas wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 11:12 amQuickHash v3.0.2 is now payware (check https://quickhash-gui.org/downloads/).

According to Ghacks.net, from January 2019 the Steam client will no longer be XP compatible: Steam won't run on Windows XP or Vista in 2019 www.ghacks.net /2018/06/14/steam-wont-run-on-windows-xp-or-vista-in-2019/ Not surprising as XP is 0.2% of Steam usage and they're likely switching to a modern ...

For Thunderbird Portable, you'd place the userChrome.css file within X:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\Data\profile\chrome For a version of the above without the font changes, you can use this: /* * the following deals with tabs: * * 1. make them square * 2. Re: Transmission-Qt - bittorrent client
Transmission has a command line option called --config-dir built in that allows you to direct the app to look in a specific directory for its configuration. I'm unsure if Transmission permits relative paths within its settings.json file, however, which would be required for a 'native' portablization...

Re: XUL/XPCOM Technology For PM-FX-SM
In contrast to some other folks here, I exclusively use Firefox 60.x and have had no issues. It's faster and more stable than legacy Firefox and I'd stopped using legacy-style extensions due to security and stability concerns last year. One thing I did do was to refresh my Firefox profile. I've been...

Enable TLS 1.1 and 1.2 support in Windows Vista
I put together some updated instructions on enabling TLS 1.1 and 1.2 support in Windows Vista as part of troubleshooting an issue some folks were having on the older OS downloading apps for posting on PortableApps.com and my personal site. Since there are a larger number of folks using older OSes in...
