Re: USB hardware benchmarks (& testing...)

@Midas http://usbflashspeed.com/ The benchmarking/testing application requires the .net framework to run. Excellent resource, Baas. Since there seem to be all those benchmarks databases already on the Net, I'm tempted to substitute what I posted at the top of the topic, which now looks like a rathe...

Re: USB hardware benchmarks (& testing...)

Its a good idea, but we might have gotten beaten to the punch on this. Baas talked about this in the other thread : http://usbspeed.nirsoft.net/ Has a pretty cool listing of drives and their speeds. I took heed of that contribution by Baas, it's where I got the usbspeed link idea. :) Still, I think...

Re: OverDisk 0.11 Beta

Thank you very much for that, tproli.

After experimenting with yaP, I liked it a lot (more than when I tried to figure the Portable Apps launcher, which I was unable to do in any cost efficient manner), so I pledge to try and learn how to do it myself... :D

Re: USB hardware benchmarks (& testing...)

Whew! Sorry for the longish post, but I couldn't be sure it would be absolutely clear any other way.

I'll follow up soon with an exemplifying post.

Feel free to comment and advise -- if this is considered out of bounds for TPFC forums, I will take it down ASAP.

USB hardware benchmarks (& testing...)

IMHO, in a forum dedicated to portable freeware, people should be able to find as well some kind of guidance, however summary, to the hardware it can be run on; for this effect, I propose the community register their benchmarking results here at this thread, in adequate manner for easy consultation....

Re: Outdated resources FAQ.

In a real world example of the long term relevance of outdated systems, I'd like to mention that with so many high power/resolution mobile devices around, particularly those able to run the DOSBox emulator (http://www.portablefreeware.com/launch.php?id=687), some tinkerers (I have no links at the mo...

Re: OverDisk 0.11 Beta

I think I may have stated here that I'm not a stealth purist; if an application lives up to its promises and does not provoke unnecessary file system turmoil, then I'm glad to put it to use... So sorry, I didn't test OverDisk portability apart from having its executable in my thumbdrive and verifyin...

OverDisk - disk storage analysis

Elias Fotinis ' original site is now defunct ( http://users.forthnet.gr/pat/efotinis/programs/overdisk.html ; another minor casualty of the current Greek crisis?), but I'm surprised that this gem of his hasn't been checked into the database before... It's marked as Beta software but in my experienc...

Re: Vignetting Reducer V1.8

Those with cheaper digicams might spare more appreciation for this, IMHO...

I started with a VGA Aiptek fixed focus miniature that was nothing more than a glorified pinhole and would really profit from VR (among other utils) back in the day.

[...] I made a quick extraction test to compare 7-Zip 64 and Bandizip 64. The result: Bandizip was 24% faster than 7-Zip extracting zip files. Bandizip was 20% faster than 7-Zip extracting 7z files. Impressive! Almost a quarter shaven off extraction time -- I'll have to look into it now... ...

Re: Upgrading MailStore Home Portable from v4.x to 5.x

Although it's not stealth (see prior) and depends on .NET (a lesser issue in post Vista environments, since it is now part of the OS), this can be a life saver when it comes to backup and consolidate the bazaar of email accounts and messages one is liable to have to manage this days... I just notice...
