Re: FenrirFS - file organization / tagging
I am not sure I understand your meaning, webfork. The goal if I understand it is to catalogue a database of files such that the catalogue in FenrirFS is read-only; that is, you cannot thereafter move the source file or rename it. Here is what I can do with it that may or may not answer your question...

Re: is there a file manager that let me tag files and folder ?
I use and swear by FenrirFS . It is tagging software, better than others I've seen, and portable (haven't fully decided if it is stealth, but it appears to be so as it is mostly Windows MRU tags that get set in the registry). So far I have profiles for my documents, academic papers and articles, my ...

Using jPDFTweak for Pocketmod
Many years ago, I reached the limits of the Pocketmod and re:Pocketmod apps. I do crib notes, specialized calendars, anything to have at hand. There is, however, a process using jPDFtweak that for me is easy. I know jPDFtweak is over a decade since its last update, but it is really a powerful PDF to...

Re: PDFArranger (PDF changer utility)
@freakazoid and @webfork I discovered this morning that with PDF Arranger, you do not use cropping, but Page Split ! I never played with PDF Arranger for intricate cropping, but as I play with it this morning, it can do a decent job--like with cPDF and K2pdfOpt, it requires trial and error. I read s...

Re: PDFArranger (PDF changer utility)
A couple of options for cropping PDF files, none of which is perfect for all needs, and all are awkward, to say the least. 1. Briss http://briss.sourceforge.net/ This is a gui that I believe to be portable (requires Java). It allows up to 2 crop boxes per page, and while it is not intuitive, right-c...

D'oh! I knew I'd made a dumb mistake. Thanks for the fix and the lesson, Midas.

Re: Extra Keys [character input utility]
You beat me to the punch, MIDAS! I looked at the "Other symbols Key Set", and it is exactly what was missing in the non-Pro versions for my work. https://i.imgur.com/pikA44G.jpeg (Hey Midas, How did you get the image to appear? I tried both url and img tags, but no success (got to be a dum...

Re: Combine batch of images into a PDF
If you are fans of dual purpose utilities, like FSViewer and Fastone Viewer, above, here is another one. WinScan2PDF by SoftwareOK, a longtime item on TPFC, at https://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2051 in the database. Simply drag and drop images (or pdfs) onto the window, and click the &qu...

Re: What is your largest app on your portable drive?
I remember when I had to move my utilities to a second 1.44mB floppy, if I wanted to keep one as a boot disk (Dos 3.3 through 6.2). Now all my straight portable utilities are 1.43gB, NOT counting portables VLC, LibreOffice, and Firefox. Those were the days.

mutool for PDF image extraction
Just a short note, but I revisited the sparse documentation for muPDF (GUI) and mutool (CLI). mutool is a stand-alone cli with a LOT of options. just about the easiest is the extract (images and resources) I pulled out all the images (including both larger and smaller versions where the PDF had both...

Re: How to pull text out of a PDF and have it wrap correctly
@lintalist, @juverax: I rarely have to convert PDF to images (as opposed to extract existing images) but this works for me (at 300--no patience to do higher dpi) Use Windows 10 Microsoft Print to PDF Use PDF-XChange Editor to export the "printed" pdf to images On the main topic--pulling te...

Re: gInk - on-screen annotator (dotNET)
Nice find, billon! I still create user documents for some things, so this will come in handy, I think. The only think I'd love to add is Text function, because I don't know how anyone writes legibly on the screen with stylus or finger! The fact that you can change the pens into regular or highlighte...

Re: PDFArranger (PDF changer utility)
I agree, webfork. I just wish it hadn't so many dozens of .dll and support files. I favoured pdftkBuilder and i2pdf and some others because they were literally single executable or had minimal support files to keep track of. That said, one other note: you have to have the working directory set if it...

Re: PDFArranger (PDF changer utility)
Just playing with it for functionality (not portability). This may finally replace my pdftkBuilder (https://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1066) that I've used for 17 years! Some features. Drag and drop to specific locations within the file (insert) In one process can rotate individual pages ...
