Re: Gravit - vector design editor

Update : Still in development, seems to be fairly active. https://www.designer.io/en/changelog/ Something I keep running into is crappy images so when I saw that Gravit will support conversion from "raster images to vector groups with one click via Vectorize image command" that's definitely somethi...

Re: CherryTree - hierarchical note taking app

I find it's far better to use the native portable version than the Portable Apps version I've had similar experiences. Notably the Folding@Home client (not natively portable), Notepad++, and CubicExplorer (which are natively portable) just seemed to both work better over time. However, the opposite...

Re: Notepad++ - text and programmer's editor

Notepad++ -> Offline User Manual rel. 2.5 released at July 13, 2021 I always much prefer help materials in an offline state. Websites die and it's nice to have good info, and this just goes to show how easy that is (this was created with HTTrack Website Copier -- it's just a copy of the user manual...

Re: Anti-Twin - duplicate finder that can match SIMILAR names

I formerly had a note in the anti-twin entry that it doesn't detect similar text files. I'm not sure what I did wrong the first time but I had a need for a batch similar content checker so I retested this with two slightly different text files: https://i.imgur.com/LQo38ip.png Seems to work fine. Wis...

Hydrus Network - image manager and collab tagging

I didn't make it very far into this program just because there's a bit of a learning curve and I was looking for something to simplify things rather than re-learn a new system.  Still, it might come in handy for someone on the site. Appears to work with other image collection sites and their existin...

Vampix - color threshold editor

A cute image tweak, usually used to create those nifty black and white with streaks of red photos you sometime see in plant photography. There are definitely other tools on the site that can do what this does, but the simplicity and speed might be worthwhile. One minor negative: I wasn't able to res...

Obsidian and Zettlr - markdown editors

Two very smart markdown editor tools that I've seen some very encouraging things from. The programs share a lot in common, including their install behavior, so I gave them a united post. https://obsidian.md/ (liteware) https://www.zettlr.com/ (open source) Status : Not portable , writes program and ...

Re: ExtremeCopy Portable

Update: now at v.2.4, the program is distributed in ZIP format, but no idea if it's portable. http://easersoft.com/ The only "portable" version appears to be from back when Midas first posted about this, and is on Softpedia: https://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/System/File-management/Extr...

This program got picked up by Google: https://screenrant.com/google-neverware-purchase-chrome-os-cloudready-explained/ "...ChromeReady is designed to bring new life to older Mac and Windows computers. Neverware was founded in 2011 with a focus on helping the US K-12 education system revive aging com...

Still in development with some updates just a few days ago:

Smaragdus opened a case about this a few years back about portability, so it may be time for a retest: https://github.com/PhotoFlare/photoflare/issues/172

Re: ImageGlass - basic viewer / editor

Update: v.8.2.6.6 is out with lots of changes. It does support AVIF and a lot of other newer formats.

I was a little disappointed it didn't have more of a directory nav/search feature, but if it's your default viewer, that probably wouldn't bother you.

Process Hacker can also suspend processes, with "suspend" and "resume" options in the context menu.
Good call. I'd forgotten about Process Hacker. Clearly that's the way to go on this.

Had a chance to retest v3.2.version and unfortunately still not portable.
