Re: Looking for an Old Program

I know the OP said no network firewalls, but it does sound like he's talking about a host-based application firewall or some type of rights/policy restrictive program. Maybe something more like SterJo NetStalker or Comodo's free firewall software, which has a lot of application-specific blocking fea...

Re: Yahoo was hacked again

I just find it funny that they're admitting to it now. I have a Yahoo account I've always used just for websites I knew that would send me spam mail. I've had that account compromised probably about three or four times. I've always told people, for years, to not use Yahoo mail because of the lack of...

Re: Soundnode (dedicated Soundcloud client)

Sorry about the duplicated entry, but I have a question about this app's portability. It seems the important settings for this app are associated with your login credentials, which are stored online. The only thing the app says it stores locally is last user logged in, last window screen size, and n...

NetworkMiner

Although commercial, the free version is very useful. "NetworkMiner is a Network Forensic Analysis Tool (NFAT) for Windows (but also works in Linux / Mac OS X / FreeBSD). NetworkMiner can be used as a passive network sniffer/packet capturing tool in order to detect operating systems, sessions, ...

Wampee - portable version of WampServer

This is actually an older portable Windows server program which was released in beta and hasn't been updated (which is a shame). However, someone may find this useful, as an alternative to XAMPP. The addons bellow will give you te ability to install Apache, MySQL and PHP development releases on your...

Really awesome player. It played badly re-encoded video files that show with "blocky colors" in MPlayer and VLC with normal picture quality.

DokuWiki on a Stick

This is kind of old, but DokuWiki is still under development while the MicroApache website seems to be down. Maybe it will still be useful for some. DokuWiki on a Stick DokuWiki on a Stick is a preconfigured DokuWiki installation which comes with its own stripped down Apache webserver. This allows y...

This is similar to the TaggedFrog program I submitted, which was designed to be portable, though requiring the .NET framework.

TaggedFrog - local file organization, tagging

Summary: "Based on the convenient drag’n’drop technique, TaggedFrog allows you to organize your files, documents and Web links. Just add objects to the library and tag them with any keywords. That’s it. You can forget the file name or where the file is located, but don't worry - the tags will f...

Doesn't seem to work well with relative links. This might be ok for what it does (manage the desktop), but bad in a portable program.

Re: How to create a virtualized and bulletproof work-environment

To do something similar with freeware, you can use Windows SteadyState and PortableFileAssociator for file associations.
