Re: Firefox - web browser
The rupture centers on a feature called Web Request, commonly used in ad blockers and crucial for any system that looks to block off a domain wholesale. Google has long had security concerns about Web Request and has worked to cut it out of the most recent extension standard, called Manifest V3, or...

Re: Process Hacker
For now, I'm hopeful. As Alex Ionescu says, this makes it finally possible for them to release Process Hacker 3.0 with a WHQL signed driver, which in turn makes KSystemInformer usable without having to enable test signing (which is dangerous and difficult) in Windows settings.

Re: Process Hacker
Update notice (sort of): I got a notice about an update but in fact it's another nightly release (as discussed above). Version 2.39 remains the recommended download. That's a long delay between releases, but maybe that's their preferred development method? https://processhacker.sourceforge.io/downl...

Alternatives Tom's has the top 3 - I haven't had great luck with Mastadon but I do think it's the future and plan to come back to it in the months ahead. They've reported the #1 option "CounterSocial" is having some slowdowns perhaps because of the flood of people already moving off Twitt...

Re: Added Windows 11 to "Runs on" list
It's nice that they're taking security seriously but this feels a bit like Microsoft abandoning ship on the expensive task of shoring up OS security and just giving everything over to the hardware. There's really no way to fix OS security other than a massive hardware update? Seriously? I have a fe...

Re: Resilio Sync (P2P Device Sync; formerly BitTorrent Sync)
For lack of a better option (that I was able to find), I'm posting here a piece of news I came across regarding the official BitTorrent current owner as a sort of " users beware " warning... Employees had mixed opinions when BitTorrent was acquired. None of them realized how much their st...

Re: Thoughts on when a new version is "released"?
Personally, I'd prefer listing only versions the developer has officially released. Some projects may upload the build ahead of time in order to get more testing for it before release. This gives them an option to fix last-minute bugs, and it turns awkward if TPFC has already listed the release befo...

Line changes This is more the domain of log file and source code analysis tools, where line differences are the most crucial part. Recommendation: WinMerge or Diffinity Thanks for the recommendations. I occasionally need to compare text files at work. I'll have a look at these later. :)

Re: Firefox - web browser
Oh, and please revert the memory hogging monstrosity into which Firefox has morphed in recent years... Firefox's biggest memory usage increase lately is caused by Site Isolation , also known as Project Fission. It was enabled in Firefox 94. It creates a dedicated process for every domain open (incl...
