Re: Removed outdated browsers from the database

freakazoid wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 7:13 pm I disagree about Off By One. It's a browser that doesn't even render Java and JS, which are the major causes of web exploits.

I don't have an issue with the rest of them.
Another big one is image and video rendering libraries. So, an out of date browser is vulnerable even without JS.

Re: Avidemux

Pro Tip: In addition to Avidemux Portable from PortableApps.com being 32-bit plus 64-bit dual mode, it contains unaltered copies of both versions within. The only changes we may make is to add any VC++ DLLs required to run on a clean older version of Windows. You can take the contents of AvidemuxPor...

Although I am not a user of Calibre myself, I thank you for the info and for the continued support of Windows 7 users, JohnTHaller . You're welcome. I try to make sure as many people can use stuff as possible for as long as possible. Same reason I do the dual mode apps with the last 32-bit v...

AndTheWolf reports ( www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2119#comment31126 ) that in versions newer than v3.48, Calibre no longer supports Windows 7. It's a first, at least for me... :unamused: The current 4.21.0 release does run on a clean Windows 7 install fully updated with no other apps/libra...

Re: Thunderbird - email and calendar client

This article focuses on PGP because security or whatever, but I'm more interested in the various other items including dark mode, calendar and tasks integration, and new compose window. You can try out the new features using the Thunderbird Portable Test channel, which packages the 78.0 release. It...

Re: SeaMonkey Portable

Just wanted to update this thread and say that Seamonkey 2.53.1 was released about a month ago, but the PA.com version is still on 2.49.5. The update is coming shortly. The Seamonkey launcher needs to be reworked and tested to handle Mozilla's proprietary mzla format the way the recent releases of ...

Re: CDex - audio conversion and CD ripper

CDex 1.7.0 was the last open source version. The source code was removed in 2015. We still have it available for download here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/portab ... urce/CDEx/

You can still download CDex Portable 1.7 as well as a complete package.

Re: CDex - audio conversion and CD ripper

The bits considered as malicious are a part of the installer. CDex Portable will download the installer and extract the files, protecting you from the bundleware. It may still trigger your antivirus even though the installer isn't run. The files within the installer itself are verified clean before ...

When there are changes, they're nearly always backwards compatible. That's why jkDefrag still works fine.

Re: CCleaner Portable

Unfortunately, I think this sort of thing will keep happening. That's one reason we scan all the apps we release and hash them, comparing the hash to the download on the user's end. That way even if the publisher gets hacked, the PA.c Platform will refuse to run the installer. Fun fact: At least two...
