Re: Suspicious users

Maybe add a disclaimer at sign-up that if you don't post within the first 3 months your account will be closed. I think we can add some info after sign up asking new users to post a hello message at the Chit-Chat section. That way, as long as they have at least a single message in the forum, they w...

Re: Add specific protection to a pdf file

...all these pdf to exe converters actually transform the pages into images Yes, that's what I also figured... Anyway your tip would have worked fine if my pdf file did not have those "extras", so thanks anyway. Just give him/her a very low resolution pdf full of watermarks. :) That remin...

Re: Browser choice

Firefox, for 2 reasons:
-It's the only browser that works OK with 100+ tabs
-Its extreme flexibility lets me improve usage efficiency way above the competition.

Re: Any chance of a Portable_Linux_Freeware.com site?

A program, regardless of platform, is portable as long as it doesn't save settings in a non-portable location such as %APPDATA% or $HOME. I think most natively portable cross-platform applications are portable on all platforms. :) I suspect much like windows portable software, some programs claims ...

Not confirmed. --------------------------- C:\WINDOWS\System32\SnippingTool.exe --------------------------- Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\SnippingTool.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search. ---...

Re: Compressing voice recordings

Obviously, nobody is obliged to support it, but lack of a person willing to do it is a potential problem when you don't need it and can be a show stopper when you do. And sorry, I'm being somewhat aggressive on this topic, before discovering other codecs I was a FLAC fan too, but now it really hurts...

Re: Compressing voice recordings

FLAC is rubbish. Unmaintained for years, weak and slow, except for decompression. It gained some popularity because of missteps of competition, but I can't understand why is it growing. Non-lossy OSS? Compress once, use forever... :| Just like WavPack, ALAC, TTA, Shorten, ALS, SLS and arguably MAC....

Re: Any chance of a Portable_Linux_Freeware.com site?

I didn't mean "uses the same settings on different machines", but rather "it's usb-portable on various platforms". Obviously, using the same settings is much better, but the main point was to just deduplicate description, comments and other metadata that's usually not platform sp...

Let me guess...your kid has admin rights? No, but using old machine running WinXP :D You know how difficult it is to secure THAT! Frankly...I don't. I'm aware about some architectural issues, but these can't be fixed by users at all and aside from that I used to think that proper access control + k...
