Re: I cannot log in to the forum using the FireFox browser.

I'm using Firefox and am able to login.

I'm guessing you're either using some extensions or settings that block cookies or changes the page referer?

Re: program that can 'set default browser' ?

You should just rely on the native OS functionality for this. Unless your goal is to backup the existing default browser value so you can reinstate it after you've finished using your portable browser? Another alternative is to use a file manager (such as XYPlorer Pro) that can open custom file exte...

May I vote for a site-wide dark mode?
I'd just recommend using a dark mode extension for your browser. The most popular is Dark Reader and is available for both Firefox and Chrome.

And it doesn't require Andrew or tproli to do any changes to the site! :D

Re: Alternatives to Google search

DuckDuckGo has a pretty good image search. Can filter by size and color.

Re: Cmder

Should we rename the thread "Cmder - packaged ConEmu and msysgit"? I don't think it's necessary to rename the thread. ConEmu clearly states it is based off of ConEmu on their Github repository page: https://github.com/cmderdev/cmder/blob/master/README.md Quote: It is based on ConEmu with major conf...

Re: Cmder

As I mentioned five years ago, Cmder is just ConEmu and msysgit bundled together.

If you don't need git support, just get ConEmu.

Re: IrfanView - image viewer and converter

I had to losslessly crop a JPEG file just now and found out that Irfanview can do this.

To use, select the portion of the JPEG you want to crop. Then go under Options and select 'JPG Lossless Crop... (Plugin)' and that's it!

Re: Hddb (Hard Disk Database) File Search

I wanted to return to this thread to post about Everything, which is HDDB's closest competitor and is still regularly maintained. It appears as though Everything now supports instant sorting, which was one of the main drawbacks vs. HDDB. Memory usage is about the same. I still like the usability of ...

Re: List of Consoles, Shells, and Extensions

I like mintty the most because it's lightweight, but I need tab support and I'm not keyboard-savvy enough to use tmux. So for now, I've stuck with ConEmu because of tabs and because it's ultra customizable. Windows Terminal is looking good, but there's stll some ways to go before I'm ready to switch...

Re: Review of Walmart's $140 laptop

Still would be satisfactory specs for a netbook running either an older version of Windows or Linux

The Ars reviewer actually tested Fedora on there. I think it could be okay if you run really barebones apps, but even running YouTube at 720p would be a struggle I'm guessing.

Re: Foobar2000 - super customizable audio player

foobar2000 1.6 is on the horizon: https://foobar2000.org/changelog

This version will only support Windows 7 and up, so the last compatible version for XP/Vista will be 1.5.5 (although there might be another 1.5 release between now and when 1.6 drops).

Re: Visual Studio Code Portable - modern code editor

Didn't know that Microsoft would natively support portable mode for Visual Studio Code! That made me want to test VSCode out, so here it goes... First impressions: - Uncompressed filesize is 236MB - Appears to be an Electron app - Memory usage is beefy. Around 450MB idle. I've seen it jump up to 750...
