Paintstar

http://wang.zhenzhou.googlepages.com/ GIMP-ish image editor, without the ugly and slow GTK. Writes settings to [app folder]\data\user.cfg, there was one registry action caught by RegShot, but I'm not sure quite what it means or if it affects portability. (Download from Freewarefiles or the second mi...

tabbyFile is a minimalist file manager. It stores settings to an .ini, and requires the standard install/move/uninstall procedure.

No install, writes settings to an .ini, around 100k... Quite simply one of the most compact resource monitors out there. Worth a look!

As far as ad/content filtering goes, try out BFilter. Works beautifully, and easy to enable and disable in case it accidentally blocks something you want to see (a rarity). And guess what... it's portable! At least, when I transplanted it onto my new PC it had absolutely no problems whatsoever. http...

ABA Games

From what I've gathered Mu-Cade, Gunroar, Torus Trooper, A7Xpg and Tumiki Fighters are all as portable as they are fun and addictive. The settings are all written to the application's folder (as a .prf file) and no changes are made to the registry, although they do need OpenGL to function (as far as...

Progress Quest

An interesting breed of "game" that requires next to no user interaction whatsoever. Pretty much a cross between a RPG and a screensaver. Saved games are written to the application folder, no changes are made to the registry, just unzip and run. It must be noted that this game does contain language ...

This is a shell replacement for XP only, and requires no install - it doesn't even have settings to write in its current form. Unfortunately I don't have a portable storage medium so I cannot say whether this is portable or not, as I have no idea how well windows would handle loading a shell from su...
