Portable Software security?

I apologize if this has already been discussed ... the only thread I could find close to it: http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5068 So I was working on an list of security tips for portable software. I came up with a list but I feel like I'm leaving out something obvious... ...

Re: 16 portable programs by Freezerware™

First paragraph of my original post reads: Most of the Freezerware programs come as either Unicode (i386ur) or ANSI (i386r) versions.
But I hate reading!

I didn't know if you were the author or what. I'll do that.

Re: 16 portable programs by Freezerware™

Few more responses: - Listshares - is it better/easier/smoother than Softperfect Network Scanner? Will it find FTP shares? Seemed to be nicely portable but I ran the program but couldn't seem to open any of the shares it listed. I was not on a very populous network so the problem might be on my side...

Re: Dropbox Portable

I *really* love dropbox and *really* want a portable version so I appreciate your work on this very much. However: 1. If possible, please include the AutoIt script you used. I'm both curious about the code as everyone keeps talking about AutoIt AND for making non-portable software portable using an ...

Re: A Few Apps

1. Are you sure these are all portable? Have you tested them in any capacity? That's a lot of work for forum members to dig through and find out about. 2. From my quick scan of the info, Quick Copy 2 Printer is probably the biggest gem out of this. If it works, there's only one other out of date pro...

Re: 16 portable programs by Freezerware™

Many of the listed programs are here on the site but included usually in some other software, not off by themselves as a lone program, which has some appeal. They also all appear to try to be very simple (and hopefully elegant). FTPEdit meanwhile is pretty unique but I wish it would support SFTP/FTP...

Re: mongoose - "An easy to use web server"

So I'm evaluating this as someone that's been trying to find an easy and secure portable file sharing tool for a while now. Security and the simplicity need to go hand in hand where possible. GOOD: * Couldn't be simpler. You open it in the directory you want to share and it shares that directory. Ho...

Re: Kitchen Sink Collection 1.0

Almost anything other than a batch file would be ideal. I'm having quite a few problems getting a batch file into an executable. If you know of a way to do that with AutoIT, I'd be VERY interested. I added the IPtoCountry.csv at your suggestion so to further improve it by including an autoupdate seq...

Kitchen Sink Collection 1.1

Version 1.1 is out and the torrent has already gotten 535 downloads in just 12 hours. Unlike previous posts, Torrent speeds for this one should be lightning fast. Major changes User interface cleanup (better icons, more intelligent folders) Fixed a number of problems in the 1.0 version with missing,...

I'll check it out eventually but whoever tries to tackle this one should know that link requires a registration. I don't speak Italian but that's what it appears to be saying.

Re:

(I am NOT going to steal your code if that's what you think  ) Well, the code is GPL'd so ... its sort of free to all. The icon would be the change you could look at making?! I kinda like that icon. Its distinctive without being overwhelming. Its a lot better than the CAFE program.

Gnumeric no longer portable

So ours is in the 1.7 trunk: http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1140 -- 1.7.10 1.8 is considered stable but the only Win32 download is 1.9 Theirs: http://projects.gnome.org/gnumeric/downloads.shtml 1.9.10 Unfortunately, the program tries to save to the Program Files directory so I'm wonder...
